Hello all,

Has anyone here had any recent contact with Frank Smith of LSG Manufacturing in Comanche, Texas? As many know, he was a warranty repair station for S&W for many years before they closed them. From speaking with him on the phone, he also is an incredibly knowledgeable and very nice guy.

I'm asking because I had talked to him about sending an older revolver to him for repair, and I know he had had some health problems at that time. I was about to send the gun and decided to give him a call first to let him know it was coming, but nobody has answered his phone or responded to emails in more than a week.

Does anyone here have any information about Frank? I hope it is as simple as him changing his number, or merely that he has retired, but I fear it may be something worse. Thanks.

I knew Frank from when he ran Lone Star Guns in Plano. Good guy. A sad day when he sold out and moved.

He and his gunsmith buddy were the last smiths I have trusted to do the job right on my guns. Bad experiences with other smiths have driven me to smith my own guns for the most part.

Hope he is well.

I'll second that, I don't think there was a better Smith & Wesson gunsmith around. Many years ago when he was in Plano, I had an old M36 that I sometimes carried as a back up. Someone had bobbed the hammer (badly) and cut a few coils off mainspring. I called him up to see if he had the parts to restore it back. He told me to bring it by and he would fix. New hammer, new springs, tune up and cleaned for FREE. He told me S&W's were guaranteed for life for Law Enforcement Officers ??, however, I believe he was just being a great guy.
Last phone number I had for shop in Comanche was LSG Mfg., 325-885-2700.

i’m sorry to tell you that he has passed away some years ago he built me a benchrest rifle that couldn’t be touched and rebuilt and accursed a s&w model 1500 270 win for me that i own to this day and it is a tack driver! he was semi retired at the time but always had time to help me out when i would stop in at his shop, great guy and no doubt the best gunsmith i’ve ever met he built a couple sniper rifles that won the sniper rifle build off at tac pro shooting center and enjoyed messing with thompson sub machine guns

If I remember correctly didn't he build miniature Thomson sub's for 25 ACP by hand? Even the drum mags. The ones I saw were a work of art.

i believe you may be right about that, the man could build anything and knew the ins and outs of any gun you could imagine, i had him build me a remington 700 308 benchrest rifle and i did the trigger on it myself and figured he would gripe at me for it being so light but he told me i understood a remington trigger better than anyone he’d ever met! talk about getting the big head lol
