Frankengun Model 65

I had checked the S&W standard catalog but did not find it listed as a variation, but I think a 158 gr LSWCHP loaded +P+ would be very effective and would not be a "deadly" 357 "MAGNUM" just Barney's 38 spl, but would be effective for LE without the DRAMA of a 357. It would be great to find out.

One lives and learns(if you are lucky).

I once had a 686 chambered in .38 special. Brazilian export. Familiar refrain, "I sure wish I had kept that and the 5906 Militar model in black finish".
I would spend the money to get a letter on this one.

I'll second the letter. My buddy has a 64-1 chambered in .357 and the LGS is holding a 13-1 that is chambered in .38. The owner knows it is possibly unique and is asking $500. He has been holding it for months. I'm trying to beat him down on it. I'd spend the money for a letter.

My vote is that it is a special order for some agency. It really needs a letter. Looks like a 4" Round Butt too! Hmmmmm......
I have a 681 in .38 Spl. that was 1 of 450 made for Consolidated Railroad Police.....
