Frankenstein 66-1-2

After seeing the new pictures, including the rear of the removed sideplate, I agree, that the sideplate is not original to that revolver. I would send it to S&W for repair. They might tell you they don't have parts for a revolver that old, and if so, I am picky enough that I would return it for a refund. Just my thoughts. Good luck.

66-2 side plate ordered. I am up to some minor fitting if necessary. Soon, she'll have that snaggle tooth fixed and be the smoke show she was meant to be.

Sorry to be late to the thread, I have quite a few K-frame sideplates given to me by an old S&W police sales rep. years ago. Would have swapped one for your L frame sideplate, not that i need one. If the plate you ordered doesn't fit, maybe we can work something out.

Jay, the new side plate will be here today in the mail. I will let you know how it works out. I am game for a swap of parts.
Thanks!

Sideplate received. It fits nice and snug with a few taps of a nylon mallet to fully seat it. the only problem I have is the yoke retention screw does not line up properly. It is off just enough that I feel I'd have to force it to get it in. Obviously, I don't want to force it. I think I could lightly file the hole from the inboard side of the plate enough to get it all to line up. Would that work?

Any tips? Otherwise, it really fits quite nicely.

Fixed it! A few passes with a fine diamond file removed just enough to let the screw seat properly. Much easier than I thought it would be. Thanks for all the insight and comments!

Here she is with her new sideplate. Now my OCD can rest easy.

Why no SN in the yoke cut?
Interesting question, but the ATF registered number is located on the bottom of the grip frame. As long as the number on the bottom of the grip frame is intact, it's legit.

That turned out great! I don't think it is very often that a replacement side plate fits that well without a lot of work.

Thanks, other removing what must have been a small burr to get the yoke retention screw to fit, it just needed a few light taps with a nylon mallet to seat it. I was expecting it to be much more involved. Luck of the draw I suppose.
