Free float hand guards?

Kennedy is mistaken. The barrel nut on the M&P10 is NOT the same as on the M&P15 per S&W. The M&P10 uses a 1-7/16"-16 barrel nut (same as a DPMS-style .308 barrel nut).

I knew that too, I didn't post a reply to this email...he works for S&W's tech support? He should be fired.

I ordered a Troy TRX308 13.8". As many of you know Troys website asks you to select low or high profile. I selected low and it fits perfectly on my M&P10. I selected low based off the S&W employees quote on that forum. I was worried when I heard some on here talk about the fact the it is high, but the Troy low fits perfectly.

Apex handguards state that the appropriate handguard for the M&P 10 is the later (post '09) model DPMS, which is the low profile.

i just purchased the Midwest industries free float rail for my a r 15 and now just ordered one for my a r 10 MI-AR10SS12-A was great rail and looks awsome

I just want to thank you for your service! You will be home soon and will be able to shoot your new M&P. Go Navy!!!!!!

APEX Hand Guard for the M&P 10

I totally recommend the Apex Gator free float hand guard for the M&P10. Along with a DPMS Barrel nut. I bought the short Carbine length Apex Hand Guard because I wanted to be able to use the Factory Gas Block, it is lighter weight and the short one would be more rigid and less likely to give when using a bipod. With the Apex Hand guard you DO NOT have to replace the dust cover rod with a longer one as you would need in most other free floating hand guards because the Apex hand guard covers the whole barrel nut just as the Delta ring did. I bought a new DPMS Barrel nut because I didn't want to just cut the delta ring off and wanted the option to restore the rifle to the original state if needed. The Apex Hand guard was easy to install and is very sturdy with a lot of grip for hands or gloves.

I just installed the 13.5" Diamondhead VRS T-308L (Low profile) free floating hand guard (#2351), on M&P10 (#811310). It came with its own barrel nut. Also installed a low-profile Geissele Super Gas Block - Nitride (05-231N). Everything lined up and installed easily and perfectly. The angled cut on the hand guard end adds a little to the aesthetics of a 'muzzle device-less' barrel.
I had originally installed the Magpul mid-length MOE hand guard but didn't care for look or feel on this rifle.

I am currently torn between the MI mlok 12" or a 14" mlok from SLR... kind of hoping they make their 14" solo lite following the recent add of the 15" solo lite... if not I may go with the MI mlok 12".

I bought my rifle as the hunting model and the previous owner has a 15" troy alpha installed but it's the armalite spec rail and it sits too high. I also don't like that most 308 rails I've seen that I like are 15" only as I recently cut my barrel to 16" and don't want my support hand near the brake ports...

I have an APEX 12.625" handguard on mine with a low profile rail to match. I bought it directly from APEX: APEX MACHINING CO INC.

If you are going to replace the hand guard on an M&P 10 definitely get the ring tool. A friend with strong hands and a mallet wouldn't hurt either. I wish S&W used a similar system to Rugar there. The threaded ring is beautifully easy to manipulate.

Tried and true

Here is a link to the page that has the modular handguards listed. 3/4 of the way down is the ones for the dpms sized rails:

JP - Modular Hand Guard System

I think it would work based on what I've read.

The JP systems are hard to beat. The MP-10 will mount the MK III Rapid Configuration D Series; And the SLR Rifleworks adjustable gas blocks finish the conversion to a "T". A STANDARD AR-15 tool will remove the MP-10 barrel nut and the above mentioned JP system comes with a tool that allows proper tensioning with a crow's foot wrench.

The only time an adjustable gas block is useful i when the rifle is over gassed. It won't do a thing for the M&P-10 with it's smaller gas port

WOOPS!

TRUE! I'm sorry (flawed memory) I confused another AR308 with a Rainier barrel that mounted a SLR adjustable gas block. BOTH it and the MP-10 utilized the JP floating hand guards; the MP-10 was left with the STOCK gas block. BOTH rifles functioned flawlessly.[my-BAD...:o]

Flash suppressor threading.

Just picked up a new M&P 10! I'd like to upgrade the flash suppressor to an MRE but I'm not sure what the threading is. Can someone enlighten me? Thanks!

I have the shorter Apex Hand guard on mine and it works great and lines up with the original gas block.
