I am over my sciatica from my 2 car accidents faulted on other drivers.

Hitting the weights again between construction jobs and French Quarter work.

Any suggestions for diet or supplements.

Obviously, don't drink or smoke. Not going to quit, but cut back.

I don't eat sweets or bad carbs -- whole wheat only. Men's vitamin daily.

How many grams of protein???

Some one stole my Schwinn road bike; looks like I am going to be running once the pay period hits Friday for some new top of the line Asics.

Thanks.

Man you must be young, I haven't heard free weights for a long time. I disliked them also.:D

Weight machines were bad enough.

I use worm weights, do they count?

My weights vary in weight.

1) 12 ounce BROWN BOTTLES.
2) 22 ounce Glasses.
3) 20 ounce FROSTED MUGS.
4) Those 1/2 Yard and FULL YARD Glasses are TOO HEAVY.

Another benefit of RETIREMENT is that the companies
ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY is no longer IN EFFECT!

Ya beat me to it. I was gonna say 12 ounce alternate beer curls.

Search & read up on Wendler's 5/3/1 training program. Simple and effective.

I've had great results with the insanity workout. It doesn't build much bulk, but it did lean me down quite a bit, which is what I was looking for. Not to mention it added a lot of stamina to my other workouts. I haven't dabbled much in free weights though.

I have also had good results with a pull up bar and following the Major Armstrong program. I started out with only being able to do 3 pull ups, in 8 weeks I was up to 20. My routine now consists of 50-65 unassisted pull ups.

Most of my workouts are cardio based so I do a lot of running and biking. Most important this is not to hurt yourself, and injury can take you out of the program for months!

My breakfast consist of a cup of Silk, a blended release protein powder (it has different types of protein some of which takes up to 12 hrs to process) and a banana, then I use a whey protein powder shake with amino acids after I workout. I do my best to keep high protein meals in the mix with very few bad carbs.

I also read that Tony Horton takes 1 gram of protein for every pound that he weights. If you weigh 190lbs then you would consume 190 grams of protein. There is no way that I could eat that much protein in a day, then again I don't look like Tony Horton either.

Oh and vegetables are friend! Eat them plenty and often!

Bench press with wife spotting 400lbs 3 sets of 10.
Snatch three sets of 10 at 185. Squats 500 lbs three sets of 10. Alternating days with a 6 mile run. During the summer I swim 1 mile a day in the bayou. Sundays I rest. Only good carbs- Abita Turbo Dog. Protein-prime rib. Watch my sugar drink diet coke. Best shape of my life. Let me take off my shirt and flex for you.

I do five days a week, M-F, weekends off except for a long walk or bike ride or swim in my pond, weather permitting.
Each day I do 30 minutes of cardio and then a combo of free weights and machines for a half hour at the gym. I have all the stuff at home but there are too many distractions at home, so I reserve in house workouts to very bad weather days.
I stick to a "push-pull" routine with legs every second day.
I'm 60 this friday so I just watch what I eat and drink, not too concerned about protein as I am on a mediterranean diet. I know that too much protein is hard on the organs.
I've been lifting and running since I was late 20s although I can't run anymore without paying dearly, we do wear out.
I just have always tried to keep it reasonable because longevity is the real secret to staying healthy.

I lift a No. 4 Enfield daily, 20 lifts. And I have one of those hand squeezee things to improve grasp.

And I lift teacups or coffee frequently. I like orange juice, and grape juice has even more antioxidents.

Very little pop/soda, just occasional ginger ale.

I've been using unfiltered honey, but it doesn't seem to help allergies. Might be because a rival honey producer told me that the main guy plugging his honey for allergies here is actually using a lot of Colorado honey!

Caj....it's time for you to wake up. You've been dreaming again.:D

My routine? I walk past the weights on the way to the donut shop...

OK, you got me. I normally drive to the donut shop.

T-Star: Would lifting my 15 lb Feinwekbau air rifle for 20 shots offhand in my range from the utility room to the garage, be the same as lifting the No 4 Enfield 20 times?

627 didn't get much help. I imagine it has nothing to do with 627 and more to do with the age demographics of this forum.

For myself, I've given up weights. Too much trouble with the tendons in my elbows. Instead I've found that I can do a reasonable job of keeping my muscles toned with free hand exercises: push ups, dips and chins. Lots of crunches and running. Age is a booger. The desire is still there, but the ole bod just can't go there anymore.

I do 2 hours of lifting with free weights with as little break as possible between sets.

Full chest, back, and then arms. Stretching before and after followed by 10mi cycling 5 mi to the trackand 5 mi back, and 2mi running: 1 mile jog after 1 mi fartlieg on the ash track. 3 days a week.

Working construction 3-4 days a week. Working French Quarter madness 6 days a week including double shifts.

At least a 100 hours of work a week, each day of exercise is about 3.5 hours.

I actually was really into power lifting and quit about 15 years ago. Ended up with benching in the 500 pound+ range, warm up was 315. Now my back is bad, my shoulders are bad, my knees are bad, my elbows are bad, and I'm over weight. Quit lifting because I finally realized what I was doing to my body. My daughter had to put my socks on some days because my back hurt so bad. I could lift all that weight but can't put my own socks on, I finally quit and started jogging. I ran every other day for years and really enjoyed it, lost 60 pounds. That lasted till I blew a knee out. Now I've gained all the weight back. Looking back I think I would have been better off just going for a walk for my exercise.

I am really embarassed---I thought this thread was about finding free wheel weights and casting boolits.
I don't use the "W---" word any moe. And, I adhere strictly to a napping exercise regimine.
Blessings
