I used the search function for this and received no hits.

I have a Samsung that requires a replacement about every 3 to 5 months. The factory replacements are a bit over $60 ea. I can find non factory replacements but the reviews are about 50/50. It seems the non factory filters have a tendency to leak.

Anyone use other than factory filters with good success? If so what brand/s are you using? Thanks in advance. :)

the last samsung frig we bought did not have a water filter, But i have a whole house filter that gets changed every 3 months. We have really good water just lots of lime.

I put an in line filter on the incoming water line behind the box-you can put threaded fittings on the 1/4 inch copper pretty easy, and magic marker the date you want to change them on the filter. They are cheap compared to the factory stuff, and make the internal filters last longer-nicer wawa also.

We have a Whirlpool fridge with a plug-in filter. They want way too much money for a replacement every six months. I found Aqua Green on Amazon for less than half what Whirlpool wants and for five years have worked fine.

The in-laws LG fridge has water filters whose factory replacements are similarly pricey. They get 2-packs of HDX brand replacements from Home Depot instead of LG's brand. No problems after many years.

Never heard of fridge filters. Are they for fridges with ice makers ?

I always turn mine off because they either start leaking or stop working. Don't really need it.

I have a Samsung, less than a year old. Have replaced the water filter once so far. The one I bought is Refresh, from Amazon, about $15 each.
No leaks so far, did really have to push to get it in properly.

There are many more. Just pick one and give them a try.

Staying on point with original question, I have a Samsung refrigerator. To be honest, I've never put any thought into the filter. I've just ordered the cheapest thing I could find from Amazon. We've been through a bunch over four or five years, and never had a problem with any of them. Until I do, I'm just going with low bid . . .

I just buy cheaper ones online at Amazon,
Eco Aqua or something like that

The idiot light on the fridge (Whirlpool)comes on when it's time to change. I believe it is "time" activated not how much water has actually flowed through it. I ignore it.
Write the date on the filter and change it twice a year. We do not drink that much cold water from the fridge or use tons of ice.

I use OEM Samsung filters but I don't change them out when I get the red reminder on the touch screen. With only the two of us here, there is no way the filter needs to be changed after only a few months. I've got a feeling the change frequency is set by the worst case scenario family of two adults, a grandparent, seven thirsty kids, and a pair of gerbils.

How do you find the cotton picking filter? I realize it'd probably be a real good idea to change it, but can't figure out where it is.
