Shipped 3/11/60, my 6.5" M27.
This one's my favorite and I have no idea why. ;)
For me this is the epitome of .357 Magnums.

And my 5" M27-2 shipped 9/4/75.
Its beautiful and carries a lot of sentimental value.

I've had a few that monetarily were worth a lot more than either
one of these but these are the two that I kept.

Beautiful guns! Looks like they have been well cared for. I only have one, a 5" 27-2 with a lot of character (holster wear) born in 1973. Along with my 629, it's my favorite revolver to shoot. Great balance and very accurate. I don't feel the need to have another. If I could only keep one, I think it would be the model 27.

I think you kept a very nice pair! That 5" is sublime. 😎
M27's are addicting, how did you talk yourself into letting the others go?

Without a Court Order ?

You are a bigger man than I.

There is no way I could pick just two

Though you did pick two very nice ones.

I like the 6 1/2"s as well. The barrel length is very fitting for the gun powders that dominated the Era that the 357 Magnum was born into and the Patridge front sight just looks so appropriate to that barrel length

The 5" guns balance very nicely for casual shooting

Perhaps this is from a Law Enforcement point of view, but the 3 1/2"s are so sexy.

And then there are some nickel ones to go with the blue ones . . .

It must have been a very tough decision to sell off most of your collection, but there comes a time when it's either desirable or necessary. Thanks to your decision, I'm sure that there are now some other very happy S&W owners. However, you kept a beautiful pair of .357 Magnums- with pedigree back to the Registered Magnums. N-frames are a particular favorite of mine, and the .357s are extraordinary firearms. I have a few in my modest collection that keep my other N-frames company. I would like to add a 5" one of these days, too.

I really like your taste here, and gun #1 makes a lot of sense, it just radiates kool klass all over the place, a great favorite, and the 5", well everybody needs a least one,, the only thing missing is a 3 1/2", lol!

My brother wore the 5" to his graduation from the police academy and when he worked with the secret service to help keep an President Reagan during his first visit to Utah.

I got over excited and collected one of each barrel length, 3.5, 4, 5, 6, 6.5 and 8 3/8.

The 3.5 and 4" were both pre-27s. $$$$ :)

I have a bunch of them too but the 6 1/2" has been elusive for me. Maybe some day.

I don't know why that 6 1/2" is my favorite. Just something about it.

When I got it the rear sight blade was bent, it looked like it had been dropped. Replaced it with a white outline blade ad I added the Cokes.

I didn't know what to do with them. I know that sounds dumb.

No kids to leave them to and a couple of the really nice ones I
knew a true collector would enjoy them more than I did, not
that I didn't enjoy them.

Thank you, and so are yours.

I always wanted a 27-1. But then I probably would have sold it too.

"The Warden"

Here's the 3 1/2" I sold. It was shipped on my ex's birthday, 8/15/55.

Amazing how so much of our lives relate to those "forgetten years"... I've got to confess I feel a little bit sorry for "Johnny Depp", I think he may be a kinda "fragile dude",, thinking Edward Scissor Hands, and you've got to admit, Jack Sparrow is a little emotional.... so at first my ex was the "refrigerator",, amazing how a marriage certificate on the wall can turn off some peoples passionate side... lol and later when I began to see the hand writing on the wall?? the "Warden".. Kold with a capital K and heartless.. and taking a risk here on being thankful for a a second chance,, I married the "Honey Badger",, yeah I've been threatened for using that little "nick" as her persona on the inter webs, but hey, she is, or at least she was "passionate",, love her and wouldn't trade her for all the reg mags ever produced!

I doubt I could have let that one go,,, that's one to take with you in the "box"!! must be that Cherokee side of me??

My special ordered 4" Model Pre-27 shipped April 22, 1957 was
probably the toughest one to let go of. Mainly due to its rarity.

And my 6" nickel "S" Model 27-2 shipped in Aug 1968 was a tough one too.
It was my last nickel .357 Magnum.

I had a nickel 8 3/8" transitional 27-2 that was pretty easy to let go some time earlier.
For some reason it just didn't do anything for me.

@rubiranch... This leaves one burning question (well, for me at least), you sold 8 - 27's, I'm guessing that brought in between $12 - $15K (maybe more)... what did ya do with the cash??!! I hope you turned it into something really fun/great. Please don't tell me you paid your mortgage down, or something just as boring.

The old saying "Wedding cake makes a woman hate sex".

I bought a used car and a truck camper and stashed the rest. :)

The 4" pre-27 brought in about half of your first figure. ;)

Excellent choices. I collect 6 1/2" N frames, but also have a NIPC 5" 27-2 of similar vintage in the safe. One of my favorites is a boxed 6 1/2" 27-1 that left the factory with TH,TT, and cokes. Took me years to locate and obtain--it will most likely be one of the last to go.

Had a 27-2 3 1/2 inch which had black sights on it. Never much cared for the sights. If they had red ramp and white outline I would have shot it more. Only fired about 24 or 30 rounds in it the whole time
I owned it. Sold it in 2020. Never should have gotten rid of it but I bought a 686+ 3 inch with red ramp, white outline. Being 73 with arthritis in both hands was hard to use bigger guns. Mainly carry 66-8 4.25 now. Easier on hands. Never liked model 60 with 5 rounds.

Rubiranch, it makes sense to me, FWIW. When I find I may be too deep on one model/variant, keep the best 1 or 2 and sell the rest. Interests change. You may have interest in barrel length, finish, variant, time period, then decide to go another route. I have never regretted keeping the best examples if I find other interests. This way, when you are keen on ______ years later you don't feel bad when you eventually gravitate back to what you had. After all, you still own the best of the best of your collection.

I do wish I had known you were having a sale though... :D
