I wonder if gun forums are considered to be “social media”? I saw that requirement, too. That right there could form the basis of a legal challenge. It seems there will have to be a legal definition of “social media”.

doesn't seem to be much reason to have a ccw?

That was the point. And those who had one for decades now have a largely useless piece of paper. The Supreme Court decision was the worst thing to happen to NYS. Whatever legal challenges that might be filed will take years and might not even be successful.

You know how a lot of younger folks are , they post everything on social media . How many times do you read about police nabbing someone from what they posted ? It's been a while since I had my top secret clearance , but I bet they ask about that also .

Let's say Joey applies for his CCL and hands over all his social media accounts .They research and find a post of him smoking weed , and they say wait a minute . You're a user of drugs , we can't give you a CCL , who knows what you would do when you're crazed on drugs and carrying a concealed weapon .

All in all , just a way for them to say no .

Great way to nail someone for lying on their 4473. Online posts and photos/videos of you getting wasted on pot. That's a felony for lying.

Tens of thousands of people get caught lying on that form every year. The feds prosecute maybe 20 of them.

This requirement for a CCL caught my eye: (a list of former and current social media accounts for the last three years).....I hate to think how this will be used to prevent someone from getting their CCL .

Don

Chilling effect aside, I don’t foresee the ACLU riding herd on this one, though they should. So glad I do not live in NYS.

I suspect that it wont survive strict legal scrutiny.....

The paper does have another use.....I'll leave that to your imagination....maybe the porcelain gods can help with inspiration.

Good for me (elites), and not for thee (the rest of us)....the American Revolution started for similar laws many years ago....and in kind of the same geographic locale.....hmmm

IBTL :)

Sounds like they're trying to establish the Thought Police. If someone says "I have none." are they going to search for them ? What next, asking about religious affiliation ?

Yea, NY was forced into this by the SCOTUS. They are now very busy there excluding places one can carry concealed - pretty much everywhere, requiring all kinds of hassles for ammo purchases, making it expensive and a long process to even get a license, and I am sure that will go to the SCOTUS as well as NY is desperately trying to skirt the law and might eventually loose. Apparently, what the laws are and what NY enforces are two different animals.

In the long run, my suggestion would be if you are able, get out while the gettin' is good. I did and actually feel like an albatross was lifted off my neck! I could not wait to get the NY Plates off of our vehicles. Instead of going back to visit, we have invited all our friends and kids to come on down! I can't see myself ever going back there - even to visit. SAD - since I was born and bred there. :(

The frustrating thing is that a decision from the SC can be so easily skirted, with absolutely no fear of consequences. Sure, some gun group will mount a challenge, paid for by donations from citizens, while the state will simply use the taxpayer funded attorneys to stall it and fight it for years to come. Then, even IF the law is successfully challenged, they'll just make a new law to get around the decision, and the process will play out all over again. Generations of laws and challenges to those laws will go on and on, funded by the bottomless budget of the state.

Of course, all those who live out of NY will be affected soon enough, since the possibility of another AWB, this one that does NOT grandfather firearms and magazines, and does NOT have a sunset clause, seems very likely to me. I "hope" they let me keep my 5 shot Chief Special.

Yeah, yeah, call your representative. I did. He doesn't care. And even the few who do are irrelevant. They only need 60 out of 100, and I 100% believe they are going to get them.
