Wheel gun fanatic here. S&W makes some of the finest revolvers. Big bore is my thing. .44mag, .460 S&W (and .480 Ruger, though off-topic Lol). I also shoot a lot of .357mag.
I also reload for over 20 cartridges. Have been reloading for over 25 years. I picked up casting about 10 years ago.
As a result, I buy rimfire ammo and make everything else.
Probably my favorite S&W is the .460 S&W with the 14" barrel. I bought it used and worked with it for a year trying to find a load it liked. Then a fellow club member at my gun club took a slo-motion video of me shooting it. The resulting photo of a complete fireball that engulfed over 2/3 of this monstrous handgun and left scorch marks on the scope indicated to me that something may not be right.
Long story short, I sent the gun back to S&W asking them to check the cylinder gap as I was getting splatter back on my face while shooting. The gap was at .010 by my measurements. S&W replaced nearly every part of the gun except the frame, all at no charge. Apparently I was right that something wasn't right.
Took it back to the range and took another slo-mo video of shooting it. The fireball is 1/4 of what it once was and no longer engulfs the entire handgun, nor does it leave scorch marks on the scope. It also shoots a lot better. Go figure.
But the photo of that fireball is impressive. Lol
