Looking to add some white paint to my front sight on my 442. Was thinking of just getting some model paint from the hobby store. Looking for something that will stay on fairly well. Anyone have recommendations?

I use Testor's enamel paint. I tried different colors before settling on black (I have a 642). Once I settled on my color of choice, I applied some clear hardening nail polish over it.

I here model paint works well. I use apliance white touchup paint. If I want color or in my case a colored dot in the center, I use finger nail polish.

Liquid Paper or White-Out , correction fluid , it's flat white and easy to apply. Any store that sells paper and pens has it. The correction pen can even put on nice white dots. I believe it's lacquer but could be wrong.
Use it as a base coat for colors also. Makes them brighter.

Baby blue

Some time ago I was reading that someone had used baby blue nail polish on their front sight.

Having used the typical red, orange, yellow, and green through the years I decided to give it a
try, applied it to the upper third on the front sight of a model 10-6 and was quite surprised as
to the light gathering qualities and believe I'll stay with this color for a while until a better color
comes along.

I've tried them all at one time or another, before there were fiber optics. I have a hard time seeing black sights. The ones that worked best for me were bright orange or light blue. A white undercoat makes them show up a lot better. The paint gets dirty and darker over time. A clear coat nail polish over the top color makes it so you can wipe the dirt off and it's like new again. I always trimmed the sides with a razor blade after the paint dried to give the sight crisp definition.

Birchwood Casey makes some excellent marking pens for this purpose. If you go with orange, put on a couple coats of white first.

I used auto touch up paint. Bright red with auto clear coat over the red. Has stayed like new for over a year on my 640-3.

I've been using bright orange nail polish with hardeners already mixed in the last few years. It stays on and is easy for me to pick up when shooting. Even let my wife borrow it on occasion.

Jig Paint

I've had good luck with fishing jig paint. It takes three coats, a white base coat, the color coat (I like the bright orange), and a clear top coat. This is a little more work but has held up well so far.

Plenty of good choices and they all work well. Just don't expect any painted-on color to be as permanent as an inlaid color insert or fiber optic.

Agreed, but at $2 bottle, and 100+ applications per bottle... I like white covered with a flourecent topcoat, nail polish has the brush already to go, you can refresh after cleaning.

I use nail polish also. My wife jokes that I have more colors than she does! My current favorite is bright green, but I've used red and orange quite a bit. Easy to remove if you don't like it.

Just clean the sight first with nail polish remover and let it dry. Then, a white base coat makes the color of your choosing pop a little more. Finally, a coat or two of your primary color, and finish with some nail hardener over the top and it will stay there until you get ready to take it off.

Glow on paint. One shot with a light and they become night sites.

Glow-On

Did it back in November of last year so it's lasted over a year already one application. I sealed with clear nail polish after it dried. I cary the 442 appendix so it gets used. Hasn't come off

Here are photos on my 442 taken 5 minutes ago

Daylight it appears almost white for quicker acquisition:

One quick and I mean quick hit of light from the back using a streamlight microstream (35 lumen) in my weakhand:

A little more sustained light on it maybe 2-3 seconds from the microstream (or one quick hit from my 345 lumen tac light:

It lasts 5 minutes or more after you hit it once

I cannot recommend it enough. Best upgrade to any fixed site revolver and it only costs $10
