I took my wife's M&P40 out this afternoon for a little target practice, after the first mag I noticed the white dot in the front sight was gone. This gun was an anniversary present for my wife but hasn't been fired much due to her recent battle with cancer. Any ideas as to what happened here?

The dot fell out (it's just paint). I just use Liquid Paper to put a new one in. :) Other options: Use paint, nail polish, or send the gun back to S&W. Lots of members have done all the above.

You know, as much as this is normal, one would think that S&W would rectify it and make sure that they provided a sight that did not have the dot fall out.

Yes, it is not that difficult to get some white paint and repaint the dot, but, come on, it is pretty frustrating!!

It's only frustrating if you let it frustrate you. :D I figure if this is the most serious problem I have, I'll live with it. (I've got 50K rounds on one of my M&P's and this is/was the only problem)

Thanks

Thanks for the replies, I'm not overly concerned; just surprised that it happened on such a new gun. I could see it fading with age or chipping with a lot of handling but it has only been out of the case 3 times. I'll just use a little bit of auto touch-up paint.

Time to install you a set of Truglo TFO night sights when the white dot falls off!
