Recently acquired a .38 M&P 1st Model Target.
The front sight has been replaced.
Is this a S&W sight?
What era is it from?
The gun shipped in 1900. To my knowledge the front sights of that day were not as wide as this one.

Gary Lowe says the rear sight notch has been widened. It works well with the front sight.
I guess the options are widen the notch or replace the blade.

Just to throw in my 2 cents. If you shoot the gun very often the set up you have now is probably better than the originals. I have a few target model from the teens and the sights are so small. Leaves a lot to be desired as far as shooting and enjoying the results.

I did a little digging and found my original S&W catalog that is a 75th Anniversary (I think 1931) the Patridge sight offered is 1/10 and looks exactly like yours. I can not get pic to come out straight up and down for some reason.

No rework stamps under the grips. The letter does not mention any rework. Also does not mention any available documents, not even an invoice. Have been told that records of repair work are fairly rare.
Agree that the sight looks like the 1/10 inch patridge. Mine is just the least bit undercut. Don't think the factory did that.
So I would say a good chance it is a S&W sight. Probably the work was not done at the factory.
Thanks for the help.
