I noticed today that my fairly new M&P 9c (had it for 3 weeks) lost the white dot on the front site when I was at the range. I had put approx. 150 rounds thru it since I received it.

The front site is moving leftward as well... like it is not affixed to the slide. Must have moved suddenly during the day... it moved so far left that I complete missed an 8" diameter outer ring target at 30 feet.

Is it a common problem to have the site dot fall off, or for the front site to move? Attached image shows it moved a lot... the lighter vertical band to the right of the site used to be covered by the site. Looks like it mover at least 1/8 inch.

I put in a ticket to S&W - free shipping, so that's great. Any idea how much something like this would cost to repair if I just went to a local gunsmith?

EDIT: Problem resolved - S&W Repaired defect.

The white dot on the front sight of my full size M&P9 headed off into the twilight zone before I put the first 50 rounds through it. I didn't bother contacting S&W because I knew that I was going to put some TFO's on it.

If you want to do it yourself, just get some sight paint from Brownell's or Midway and save yourself some money.

This is at least 5 or 6 M&P's that I know of that have the same problem. I think it's a damn shame they build such a sweet pistol with such a defective sight. I'm sure they will fix it...they did a friend of mines.

If you don't want to lose your pistola for a couple weeks just clean it real well and use some Testors white model paint and a toothpick and take your time. It will be fine and look great.

Losing the white dot is a common problem. I lost mine the first time out - also many malfunctions. I returned it to S&W and no problems since.
I haven't heard of the sight moving like yours, but S&W will fix it for free.

Got my M&P9C back today.
- Took 2 days to receive the email with the FedEx shipping label.
- 2 days shipping there.
- S&W had the gun for 3 full business days, then shipped it back with 2-day shipping.

Over all, it took 7 business days to get repaired. Not too bad. And they gave me a free Mag!!

They replaced the front site.

I use while acrylic model paint - it holds up well.

This, but I use Testors enamel. Can be had for less that $2/bottle at your local hobby shop. I put down one coat of flat white followed by a coat or two fluorescent red. VERY visible.

I have a two month old 9c it was bought new and after the first 200 rounds the front site was dark. It took me forever to notice there was no front site. The indoor range I was at wasn't the best lit and damn hard to see with out it. Just emailed S&W will report back...I know I could probably fix it with white paint but I suck at those type of things. Might as well just get a CT grip(which I bought on this forum)...
