Frustrated with Shield...

Question…What is the best way to adjust the front sights? What tools would I need? Thanks in advance!

I have the same point of aim issue with my Shield 40. I've bench rested and laser checked and need to make and adjustment. I'm mechanically inclined but never drift adjusted a sight before.

Any pointers/lessons learned from you experienced posters?

If you are shooting a target like we see in the original post, I wouldn't worry about it. That is decent shooting for self defense.

If you still want to adjust your sights, a punch to drift the front sight is the way to go. Mount the slide in a bench vise and gently tap the front sight to the left.

A sight pusher like this:

Is much easier. It also allows you to have it with you at the range. Adjusting the sight with a punch is almost impossible at the range.

I read many great suggestions here. It looks to me your shooting good groups. I'd move my aim up and to the right and see if they all hit the center. You may well have to adjust the sights to get it right. Hopefully your LGS can fix this for you. Good Luck!!

SMR - IMO, there is no reason we should not shoot to POA with these wonderful Shields! Mine shoots left also (big surprise) even after an Apex hard sear install. My front sight looks to be ever so lightly favoring the RH side also. Going to try moving it to fire POA no matter where it resides after adjustment. Good luck!

Rastoff, where did you get that? And how much does that cost?

Yes, I have mine at the gunsmith as we speak getting the sights aligned up. They even thought by looking at it the front sight was misaligned to the right as well. I am hoping so as it is driving me crazy not hitting where my POA is. I understand its a self defense weapon, but if I ever need to use it in a self defense situation (and I pray to God I don't), I want it to hit the target where I shoot, and just not hope that it does.

I appreciate everyones help on this issue. I love this forum. I just hope that I am able to get this resolved after I get my gun back from the gunsmith.

It appears a lot of folks are suddenly shooting to the left once they they shooting the Shield 9mm.
I'm starting to think there is something inherent in the gun causing this.

Just got mine back from the gunsmith today. He said it was 1/16 off to the right which would/should explain my shots to the left of target. I am going to shoot it tomorrow and will give an update as to how it went. Wish me luck, because if nothing changes, might be time to put it up and go to the XDs.

LOL... Seems like a LOT of people are shooting Left (or Low-Left) with the XD-S as well, so don't jump TOO Fast.

Check the various Forums and you'll see that a LOT of people shoot Left, or Low-Left with almost ANY Subcompact (or even 4" Compact) until they adjust their trigger control. There's even a Mile Long thread (550+ replies) in XD-Talk's 'XDM Discussion Room' Subforum discussing it ("XDM Shooting Left" So It Looks Like About 46% Of Us Have This Problem)

And... The finger placement that WORKS for Brand-X, may NOT work with Brand-Y, or Brand-Z. Heck... The same finger placement for Model-A may not work for Model-B of the same Brand. My finger placement for my Shield is not the same for either my G26, or my XDM9c. Each require me to adjust my finger placement just a smidgen to hit the little x every time. :)
No two pistols are the same and each requires getting used to.
Even though ammo prices are still high, I suggest having someone watch your shooting style and critique what you MAY be able to do better, rather than switching pistols.

Whatever you decide... Best wishes!

I'm looking forward to the range report. 1/16" is not much, but could make a difference.
