Having shot a 30 out of 40 last September in IHMSA's Field Pistol Any Sight (FPAS) category with the .45 Colt 625-7 for a leg up into AAA class (the next to highest) I had a year to shoot another 30 or better to be reclassed. Of course, after having done it, I went and changed the 625's RMR for another version with manually adjustable brightness, thinking it would help with dot definition. However, the new reddot's adjustments were poo! So, decided to use the high rise scoped 629 to do the deed starting early this year. And proceeded to shoot a 30 with it, but the score card was marked up for the iron sighted 29-3 (which scored a 29 that month) and turned them both in, only to discover the error too late! So neither score counted officially. Errr!!!

Then commenced to messing with Big Bore, and Field Pistol scores slipped thereafter.

So, last chance.

Started out the day cleaning all ten Chickens. And proceeded to botch the rest of the entry, with 7 Pigs, but only 3 Turkeys and 4 Rams for a 24. Ugh!

Did think to bring plenty of ammo, so shot a reentry (but no spotter), rather better, but weakening on the near critters: 8C 9P 5T and 6R for a 28. Close!

Got Kdiver58 back for spotting and decided to try once more after an excellent lunch.

Only 6 Chickens! Aieee. But not mathematically impossible to do a 30 yet, so on to Pigs: A nine. Whew!

To be continued...

So....Wee 75yd Turkeys....A little spotty remembering the exact order of things, but somewhere deep into the banks I actually said: "This is fun!" As in the challenge keeps getting bigger. But at the end of throwing lead at the birds, seven were down.

Which meant only TWO Rams could escape! First bank ate ALL of that cushion. Have to clean all five of the second.....
One down.
Then two.
And THREE!
FOUR TOPPLED!
Get crosshairs on the breast, pull trigger. And no flop. Just one lone Ram standing to thwart my goal for the year.

Felt good about it, surprisingly.

The potential is there. Just more concentration needed.

Happy to note that kdiver58's scores creep upwards. He's shooting his AFS 586 better than anything he's tried previously in Field Pistol.

And 75vette's efforts look to be paying off. It's usually a long flog to get into "happy land" but things appear better to me.

We also had a couple of Ruger shooters show up and do well, but .22 Mag isn't adequate to take Turkeys and Rams reliably. Some excellent hits, but no topple.

Didn't see how sw282 did. As long as he's happy, we'll not worry about scores.

Thanks for the encouragement J. I actually felt pretty good about about my shooting Sat even though my score didn't reflect it so much. Now that I have the FFIII mounted on the PowerPort I just need to get it dialed in better on turkeys and rams. I was pleasantly surprised at how well the 629-3 Classic did for me with the hi-viz front sight seeing as it was the first time I'd tried it on the steel critters. Practice practice!!!

Oh yeah, yesterday Mr Happy sw282 turned a young 70. He said he got a $100 Cabelas gift card and bought out all the large pistol primers they had in stock!!!

Thanks vette..Obviously you can't get very many primers for a Ben.

But l will take what l can get when l see them..

At 70 the ONLY score l keep are the number of years GOD gave me..

I quit keeping score on targets YEARS AGO..l am there for fun ONLY...

Keeping score is WORK ..l gave up that four letter last year at retirement

I don't recommend my habits to others but lt sure works for me..
