I have an old S&W 469 (second generation compact 9mm). Got it in payment for some work I did quite a few years ago when I had an FFL and ran a repair shop. It was obvious that QC was asleep at the wheel the day this one left the factory. Ugly uneven machining on the slide and frame, but it has been uber reliable. So I have used it for one of my rotation of carry guns for years with little concern for cosmetic wear.

Comes a time when things are slow and you see an opportunity to spread a little loving attention on a faithful servant. I'm going to clean up the contours, make the flats flat, the curves curved, the lines straight, etc. Maybe a few "custom" tweaks. I'm just going to have a little fun with it. Take a break from fitting beavertails to 1911s, etc. One thing has me a little stumped. The TG on this one is offset to one side. It is .464" wide, but the distance from the side of the TG to the frame flats on each side differs by an average of .030". It is biased to the right as if it were clearance for a left handed shooter (and I am a lefty). Unlike the one time popular modifications (Fitz, ASP, Devel), this one is "clearanced" along the entire length of the side. There is still plenty of material on that side to protect the trigger, so no worries there.

So, to my request. Can anyone with a 2nd generation S&W auto measure their TG width and check to see where it is centered on the frame or offset to one side? I want to verify from a couple sources what the nominal width should be before I start re-profiling. Don't want to end up with a TG too narrow to work with a holster retention device.

I have 2 and both TGs are about .31 and they are equidistant from each side. In the front there is about .14 on each side of the TG. At the back around the mag release it is .26/.27. On the front mine has 7 rows of raised diamonds and 6 groves wide side to side and 11 groves high. On the left side of both TGs where the front meets the frame there is a small T stamped into the TG.

Here's my S&W 469. If you need any other measurements let me know.
The Trigger guard is .465 wide, it is .260 from the edge to the center, and the frame at the base of the trigger guard is .950 wide. Hope the pics help

Yes, it's real. What part are you finding "unreal"? The obsession with the TG width? As noted, my concern is ensuring that it does not compromise the security in a holster the uses the TG for a retention. The rest is purely cosmetic. It has been a good companion and deserves a facelift. Lots of milling cutter artifacts, rough finish, etc. I'm gonna clean it up so that she looks as good as she is. No bling. Just clean straight lines, smooth finish, a decent set of sights (maybe Novak, maybe something that I cut out of a block of steel). Pride of ownership and all of that.
