Way back when, his radio show was on AM radio while I was in college. I used to listen on my lunch hour. During the "jack booted thug" phase of the RKBA movement (circa 1994ish) Liddy was encouraging his listeners to purchase both an M1 Garand and a 1911. He suggested loading the M1 with M2 (aka "Black Tip") AP rounds in order to shoot through LE body armor (back in the days before the ESAPI and XSAPI plate standards). Failing that, he said to practice aiming for the groin and head so as to better be prepared to kill Federal Agents wearing body armor.
I always found it amusing in recent years when people would take great offense at Bill Mahr or Al Franken's sometimes over the top comments - or even Ice T's long obscure "Cop Killer" song, yet forget Liddy's radio advice regarding weapons and tactics *specifically* for shooting and killing LEOs.
Liddy also had a long standing dislike for correctional officers and bad mouthed and belittled them constantly on his radio show for alleged low intelligence, sadism, brutality, etc.
Interesting guy, seemingly intelligent, and quite interesting, but then so were a lot of my prison pen pals...
For those interested, much of what Liddy did in his youth and writes about would be considered a text book example of pschopathology, which was Bob Woodward's comment at the time as to why "Will" was an interesting book.
The filmed version, now largely forgotten, has an interesting scene where Robert Conrad (TV's rendition of "Pappy" Boyington) sports a mustache and is singing "Horst Wessel Lied" in the prison shower.
