Gauging intrest for drop in ambi safety

Im going to try it on my beater 15-22. No way would I hack up my registered lower before I know its legit.

Was thinking of cutting the bottom ridge off to the same point as an AR. Could fill in the "buffer tube" to make it stronger I guess.

Not real sure yet.

I think that would work pretty well.

You've got something there. It would look that much more like it's big brother.

Keep us posted.

I am going to hold out to see if Battle Arms might be able to produce something...time will tell... im not going to grind anything to make something fit...

Good luck xxspudxx! I hope it works out.

Just to clarify, the Hookup is made by Modular Adapted Design (MAD). I will send them an email to see if they want to have another go at redesigning the Hookup to work with the 15-22.

Yes but Battle Arms could make something similar and call it the BADASAP :)

Lol, you guys should petition Mission Adapted Design to make one for the MP15-22, as they already have the expertise and know-how, it wouldn't be hard for them to do it, even if it's a small production run for a specific model :)

Odered Stuff

Well I just got off the phone with Roger at Battle Arms.

I ordered extra detents and I ordered two Ambi Kits with 3 Levers each.

It was cheaper to order two kits than to buy the levers separate, so I did it that way.

Now I'll have a spare cam that I don't think will last long as I'm thinking of buying another M&P 15-22
(for the wife, her birthday is coming up), so I'll have the Ambi Safety for it allready :-) .

I want to play around with a few different combo's of levers to see what I like, this way I can.

Once I figure out what I like I'll call and order the other kits for my regular AR's (ya as if there regular :-) ) and I'll have the extra levers in case I need them.

Thanks Roger, it was great to deal with you and too talk to you.

David

Count me in for one SWS! Love the R&D work for the 15-22. How about a larger mag release button too?!? I know I can get one elsewhere but I'd rather support my fourm family. One thing at a time I guess lol.
Well the link to your site helps too!! LOL That'll give me something to do for a bit!

Pretty sure SWS does not make a larger mag release button, but you can get what you want and support a forum guy.. NDZ Performance - a member - provides one. Even have them on eBay.

Ambi safety for m&p 15-22

Saw the post this date and I am interested. How far has the development gone and/or is it available?

I will be shopping around with some local CNC shops to have this made. I plan on having it made from 6061 aluminum and hard coat anodized. As long as the price is reasonable I will move forward with this. If you have any questions fire away.

Can we go ahead and purchase the plastic version?

I just installed the noveske sts 60 degree magpul ambi safety. It fits and works perfectly. I have the same on my AR.

One of my reasons for going with the S&W M&P 15-22 was its ability to accept real AR add-ons and upgrades.

The lack of the "click" when using a real safety is because of the pin used... Not the safety. If you use an AR pin and spring, you will have your "click". The M&P spring is weak and the pin is polymer.

When I first installed the levers, they were tight to manipulate. But that was simply because they were new and have to be worn in a bit. They function 100% now. I guess you could pre-wear them with a dremel or some sand paper if you wanted to speed up the process. I think that the S&W upper is a fraction (just a fraction) wider than a real AR.

The ambi safety levers were slightly the same way on my actual AR... But not as bad.

But like I said... 100% now.

Question... Since the default safety can be flipped to be on either side... Is it just having a lever on both sides?

Idea... buy another OEM safety... Shave off the lever... (Leaving a small notch protruding) Drill a small countersunk pilot hole through the new safety lever and into the existing safety. Cut a notch into the safety (female end) that matches the one you cut in the lever (male end) and just screw it on with a screw that would sit flush in the countersunk hole you drilled. Booya... Ambi safety.

Just an idea rather than remanufacture an entirely new lever.

...and yes, the 15-22 receiver is slightly wider than a milspec AR lower.

I won't be getting rid of my BAD selector anytime soon. They can be set up to fit the user perfectly with the lever options and they won't wear the plastic from rubbing the side of the receiver. The KNS detent and the slight changes BAD made to the channel the detent rides in make this the smoothest operating lever on the market.

Awesome! That's what I get for assuming those posing the problem have searched for a solution already instead of soliciting others to so it for them. Thanks for the info and sorry you had to be the one to do the searching for the other posters. Lol
