Geiselle Triggers

Skip both and get the high speed national match. I put one in a friend's rifle and loved it. I bought the SSA afterwards because at the time it was $165, and the Hi Speed was $275. The SSA doesn't compare to the Hi Speed when you get it tuned just how you like it. I see the SSA is now over $200, and the Hi Speed is about $280. The Hi Speed is the the best trigger I ever felt in an AR, and one of the best in a rifle, period.

That being said, the tail of the Hi Speed trigger is a bit wide, and you may have to file the selector to increase the width of its trigger recess to allow the Hi Speed trigger to smoothly function. I had to, and it was no big deal.

I had a SSAE on my last AR and it was good. My smallest groups did not shrink at all, but my biggest ones did. More consistent.

I know this is the S&W forum, but the factory trigger on my Colt is so good I don't want to change it, so I haven't.

I put a Geiselle SSA-E in my AR-10, LOVE IT! Of course, any aftermarket trigger is an improvement with AR's, but it breaks like a carrot at around 3.5 lbs. It's perfect for me and for what I do. I've heard other triggers after a few hundred rounds will get mushy over time, but the geiselle is a quality product despite its hefty price. Go for it.

Does Colt have a factory 2 stage? I have an old Colt MT 6601C (circa 1999) and it's single stage is pretty darn good, but the SSA I put in a bushmaster was definitely better.

Well, yes, a factory standard trigger, two stage (6920).

I just can't find it in myself to spend that kind of money for a trigger. You can do mods to your trigger and spend some time behind it to get the right feel for it. Just use what you have, make modifications that make it better, and deal with what you have. Unless you are shooting 800 to 1000 foot why would it matter. Can you hit a man sized target at 300' with what you have. If you can then you have accomplished what your rifle was designed to do. And I would bet with a little trigger time you could reach out further. This is not a sniper rifle, it is self a defense weapon that can reach out further than your side arm.

I guess what I meant was that it is very crisp and very smooth (candy cane, carrot, glass, etc. LOL). I find that the 3.5 pounds is just right. Not too light to where an accidental discharge could happen, but not heavy whatsoever. It's simple to install as well.

I put a Geissele Hi-Speed National Match Trigger (DMR) in my M&P 15 over the Christmas Holidays and fell in love with it. Expensive but worth it IMHO. I'm still tweaking it. Due to the cold weather here in Michigan I don't have a lot of shots run through it. Something worth mentioning is the out standing customer service you will get from Bill Geissele. He answered an e-mail question on the stage adjustments that I sent off on New Years Day. That impressed me equally as much as the trigger.

Have a Geissele SSA in my AR. Works great at the range and the install was a breeze. Got mine for 159.00 a couple of years ago, could not pass up that price. :)

The worst feature on an AR type is the Mil Trigger. Even if you get a good one it's still too slow on the lock time. If precision shooting is your thing you will need a SSA-E.

I had a Colt AR 6920 and it had the worst trigger of any AR I have owned. It is long gone and I now have a 15T, which has the best stock AR trigger I have ever owned. I tweak all my triggers, and other than installing a JP light spring set and tweaking the reset, that was all I did. I have a 3.5 pound trigger pull, almost no take-up, crisp break, and very little over-travel, with a short reset.

It is not nearly as good of trigger pull as your Geissele triggers, due to the geometry of the stock mil-spec trigger. But it is way better than any stock trigger, with only $12 worth of springs and some fine tuning.

For a non-bench rest rifle for people who don't need a two-stage trigger, give this one a look. Mrs. Geiselle owns this company.

ALG Combat Trigger (ACT)

Listen to SIG....I have the ALG ACT trigger with JP 3.5 lbs. springs and it flat out rocks! And it takes 2 minutes to install.....you can get everything for around $75. Unless you are competition shooting, or setting up a SASS build shooting over 300 yards, dropping $250+ for a trigger just doesn't make sense IMO.

Thecatch8,

I used to think the same as you. I can polish a stock combat tigger almost as well as Oneyeopn. I managed to polish a stainless combat trigger to perfection and paired it with JP Enterprises reduced power springs. I didn't need a 2-Stage trigger for my range shooting.

That lasted until I got a deal on a RRA 2-Stage National Match trigger for $80. I decided to give it a go. No matter what I can do to a standard combat trigger, I can not get it anywhere close to this RRA trigger. The RRA is on the lower price end. I do not want to even touch a Timney or Geissele. I know that I'd have to have one.

I've had the opportunity to pull the trigger on an AR equipped with an ALG trigger. It's just about as nice as a combat trigger can get without polishing a stock trigger myself. Still not as good as the RRA I have now.

Out of all the doo-dad's I've installed or affixed to my rifles, the trigger upgrade is by far the most worthwhile.

I just installed a Geissele SSA on my M&P10. Be aware you need to remove the right side bolt catch. Took 20 minutes because of the bolt catch. Can't wait to shoot it.

why would removing the bolt catch on your AR10 be relevant in an AR15 forum?
