What is a safe direction? (discussed in some posts above)

That's why I said "safest" direction. There is no safe direction. Even clearing barrels fail sometimes.

I have a 5903 and a Beretta 92fs both with the decocker function. I have never had a problem dropping the hammer with the decocker. I have to admit, I do pucker up a bit when doing it with a live round. But then again, I have never shot my front door!
