I've been loving my 629, especially since I recently installed a JPoint Reflex sight! Much more accurate! I also really like the Hogue grips that come standard on that model .44 mag, however I'm always open to modifying if it means improved accuracy. I heard somewhere that the rubber Hogue grips that come standard on the 500 magnum also fit the .44 and are interchangeable. Is this true? If so, I'd like to try the 500 grips on my .44, just to see how they look and feel at the range. Any thoughts?

Yes, it's true. I bought mine directly from S&W several years ago for about $30. It's a one piece Hogue grip which screws on from the bottom. Unlike most Hogue grips, it completely covers the backstrap with a soft cushioning layer of rubber.

It fits my large hand perfectly. It cushions the recoil of full power .44 Mag loads better than any other grip I have ever used on a 629. I recommend them the grip highly.

Unfortunately, I haven't seen anywhere else that this particular model of grip can be purchased directly from Hogue or from another retailer. As far as I know, the only way to purchase one is directly from S&W.

Good luck with it. I also have a J Point sight mounted on my 629 Classic and one on my 629 with 4" barrel. Very effective target, hunting, and field sights.

I have medium sized hands, and the 500 grip was a little too large for me when tried on one of my N frame revolvers. It make the trigger reach just a little longer than I like, so I went back to the standard Hogue grip. I know that it works very well for many people, however. wyatte
