I'm similarly nauseated when I remember that, for a while in the '80s, I wore a gold chain around my neck. 
One of those about 1/4" wide, not a "Mr. T" style.
<sigh> The things we men do to make our girlfriends happy.....
Upside was, she owned an RX-7 like the one in the OP's photo, only it was a nice shade of red....followed by one that was blue....and I got to drive 'em both.

I didn't leave the 70's until the early 90's
All I have left from the 80's are my Ruger 10-22 Sporter, a couple of nice Stratocasters, a few jazz albums, a pair of B&L Aviators and a Members Only jacket. Oh yeah, and Lady Koz.
