I am in the market again to buy another handgun I want a 9mm so I went to the shooting range to check out three pistols that were in my price range and have heard good things about . I shot 15 round from each.

The Springfield XD 9mm was a definite no. The magazine is very hard to load, the trigger reset is all the way forward and it feels a little loose altogether.

The Smith and Wesson M&P 9mm felt okay. I had some problems with it though. The trigger reset was a little far forward, not as bad as the XD or my Sigma that I currently have. The trigger pull is a little long. The main concern with the M&P 9mm is, when you insert a full magazine the slide automatically moves forward and chambers a round. I spoke with a couple of people there and that is a common thing for the M&P, they said that could be dangerous because of the lack of a safety on the gun. This means the gun could and has accidently fired when a new loaded magazine is inserted into the gun.

The Glock 17 was the best I think. When loading the magazine, it's very easy to tell how many round are in it. There are indicators on the rear of the magazine so, every round you put into the magazine there is an eyelet behind it. The trigger reset is very short. I can fire the gun in rapid succession without ever coming off target, 6 rounds in 1 second. The angle of the grip is that so the recoil from the spent round comes straight back and the muzzle of the gun barley moves in an upward motion.

The Glock is the easiest the breakdown, hands down. The assembly of the Glock is almost identical to the Sigma.

The S&W is a little more complicated. And there is that issue with the slide.

The XD is not an option in my book.

All of these guns come with a lifetime warranty.

All these guns are on sale and $500 or under for the next 6 days

I am really leaning towards the dark side and thinking I am going to go with the Glock 17. I found a place where I can get the barrel with the fully supported chamber for $100. This has been my only gripe with Glocks. Oh, and the attitude of Glock Owners.

remember this,

the glock is the one the other two copied.:)

Remember, in the 50's HK designed this type of gun first, they designed it for Volkspistole, and is the one Glock copied. Glock is not the first of its kind.

The XD mechanics is nothing like a the other two. You need a few tools to take the XD apart and put back together

I agree with Ralph, although I bought the Springfield and like it. It's only purpose is to shoot USPSA matches. I felt that the grip was more like a 1911, at least to me, so it felt like "home", to me.

The Glock is a sweet pistol.

Best, Rick

I bought my first Glock last year, a Gen 4 19. I now own two Glocks (I picked up a G26), so I guess you can say that I like them. No issues with them, they are well made, and good shooters.

I also have a S&W M&Pc, like it OK, but prefer the Glocks. BTW, I would not worry about the slide closing when inserting the mag hard into the S&W. This will not fire the gun, it is built with a firing pin safety, and trigger safety that would prevent firing. Glocks can also have the slide close when slamming the mag home, no big deal. I think it's actually desirable if in the middle of a "situation" when slamming that mag in the gun... This should not happen when putting the mag in with normal force.

If you shoot the Glock 17 the best, you should go with that... It's very important that the gun works/feels good for you.

Sounds like you've already decided. I personally would not own a Glock for several reasons...but you will buy as you please. I also won't shop at Wally World so what do I know?

As for the M&P slide automatically chambering a round when the mag is inserted? I don't know about that and you can determine for yourself if you like it or not but I don't see any more of a chance of AD with that vs. manual chambering. Know your gun and it's functions. The slide has to go home one way or another!

But in the end you have to be happy...noone else. There are plenty of good guns to suit a wide variety of tastes.:)

This should not happen when putting the mag in with normal force.

I thought so too. The truth of the matter is, i did not slam the mag into place. I just slid it up into the handle and the slide closed. As you can probably tell by my signiture I have not been a huge Glock fan. I guess mainly because of the arrogance of the typical Glock owner. I also like to fire lead bullets and +p rounds esspecially for home defense. Glocks have a reputation for going, boom, after these rounds are fire out of them. Since I can get the other barrel for it I don't think it will be an issue, hell, I might even just put me Sigma barrel into it and then I'll have a great gun, with a great trigger. LMFAO

Oh ya, Glock Gen 3's and 4's are not legal in CA. I would be getting a G17 Gen 2, I believe.

I have about a dozen pistols in 9mm; only two of them are Glocks. However I've noted that the arrogance of Glock ownere's isn't the problem, it's the arrogance of people who DON'T own Glocks.

For the 9mm, from the beginning, Glock has always had fully supported chamber/barrels.

It is the .40 cal Glocks that tend to KB.

FWIW, the Glock Model 19 is far and away the most popular of the Glock models.

It is a little smaller than the G17, holding 15 rounds in the magazine, and having a shorter barrel.

You might want to consider the Model 19 Glock, some folks I've talked to had the choice between the full size and the compact in .40 they think the full size is too big and the Model 23 is just right.

Who owns a 9c and keeps it with the long magazines and grip adapter.

Get what you are comfortable with. A Glock is simple, reliable and accurate enough. I personally don't like them but that is because I don't shoot them well. My wife has a G19 and shoots it like a laser.
Revolvers just seem to work in my hands so that's what I use and I never feel under-gunned.

My own choice would be to buy the M&P and spend $100 on the Apex parts to get a usable trigger. The complaint you mention about the M&P9 is not typical. Something must have been wrong with the gun that closed itself. None of the M&Ps I own or have handled ever did that. It is not part of the design.

On the other hand, there is not much to complain of as far as a G17 goes. They are what they are, and, used as intended, they are about as good as a duty pistol gets (in their price range). I do not like the bore-grip angle and would prefer to buy something U.S.-made, if I can.

As to the Glock-attitude, no need to trouble yourself over the deficiencies of others. If you like the Glock, set that aside and buy what you like and shoot well.

I bought the G17 last Saturday, I will pick up on Tuesday morning.
I was at walmart on thursday and saw some TULAmmo, cheap stuff. Did some research and Glocks tend to just eat them up. Any opinions on them?

The latest Glocks must have different triggers to the last one I shot. From my past experience I would have said the XD and the M&P would have shorter resets. What kind of trigger are you used to, reset wise? It seems you have a particular trigger method that may not suit many modern guns.
