Where is a good place to send a “ Model Of 1950 “ N framed revolver in .45 ACP to get the barrel shortened to 4” and front sight replaced without having to wait a year to get it back?

It’s hard to say what the lead time is for any given gunsmith service. It depends on how many people are employed there, how many perform the type of work you want done, and how popular their services are. They may possibly be backlogged. Your best bet is to call and get an estimate from the company in advance.

I hear that Ahlman’s in Minnesota does great work!

Shortening the original barrel is irreversible, changing the barrel does give the option of reinstalling the original barrel should you ever decide to part with that revolver.

In all fairness, and I was the first to question his reasons, we know nothing about this revolver except was we have been told. The OP may have bulged the barrel or it may have been damaged when he got it. Personally, I would love to know what is wrong with it. If he just wants a 4” revolver, I might over him a trade. I don’t “need” another Model 1950 Target ACP, but, then again, I might!

How many 4” 45 1950 barrels are there available for sale? Not sure if I’ve even ever seen a spare one come up for sale. I’ve had a couple HD barrels punched out to 45 but that’s a more involved project.

Not all old guns are collector gems that are off limits to modification. I’ve had multiple 5 screws modified that no collector would have ever given a second look as they were when acquired.

Check out HS-Custom, LLC - Gunsmith - Joplin, Missouri in Joplin. He’s a member here and has done a couple guns for me.

Years back I had a 686 cut from 6" to 4" at magnaport. They cut, crowned, replaced sight and ported the gun. Their work was stellar. As for wait time, you'd have to call. Their lead time for mine was probably around 12 weeks but I could be wrong.

It appears the OP has abandoned this thread? Too bad, there are some interning questions that have gone unanswered.

Agreed! Plus, this is a thread that just invites pictures!
I'd love to see the OP post his 1950 .45, especially if there's some damage that is part of the inquiry.
And, I'd love to see similar work obtained by others.

Shooter 1950 45acp Target

Here is my 1950 that isn't the prettiest girl on the block but all that is forgotten when you pull the trigger! Hard to think of another gun that shoots better.

Fight the Good Fight....

Images of shortened barrels? I may have a couple.

A Model 1917 I did a long time ago, a replica of one that piqued my interest in 4”, ACP, N frames.

I have no cut Model 1950, ACP revolvers…yet. I also have some barrels waiting for frames.
