Getting free float. Apologies to everyone

Sorry for my freak out in my other post. I was more mad at myself for not realizing the hand guard was carbine and trying to figure out how to get my way.

I decided on a free float.

Apology accepted. I think you've demonstrated that buyers should try and handle a potential purchase beforehand. I know I've had my share of buyers remorse because of this.

I have this rail on a pistol build and it's great. Post some pictures once you've got it all assembled.

I did handle the sport 2 at a local gun store before I decided to buy it. The problem was in me not realizing drop in rails can only be used on the size of gas system the rifle has. Did not know that in order to use a mid on a carbine it requires a new barrel and block.

Good choice. My cousin ordered that same rail in a 15" on Saturday, and I've been breaking down his Sport earlier tonight. I was almost sold on it, and then swayed to the BCM KMR. Glad he got this one so now we have both around to mess with.

Myself, I'm about to shave down another one to save $35. I'm cheap when I can be, and like someone else on the forum said once, you already have a proven gas system, just need to modify it to fit the application.

Ah ok. I recall you saying in your other thread that you had ordered it. If not, my mistake. Kinda late for this but Troy makes the delta and Charlie drop rails that free float the barrel and extend about 2 inches past the front post. Daniel defense and a couple others make versions also. Only con is that the A2 post is still there and it gets hot. Reason I didn't mention it in the other thread was bc it wasn't a listed option and you didn't want any alternatives beyond what you listed. You took the right approach though.

Not entirely sure, how difficult is it to shave down the a2 sight to make the free float fit?

Not hard at all.
Saw, file, paint. Done.
Grinder is quicker.

If you make your initial cuts where you leave more metal than you need and take your time grinding it down to fit, it's not too bad. Many videos on YouTube. Just go nice and slow, and remember that you can take more metal off, but you can never put it back on!

that might be best anyway, as you could always re install the original A2, if not mistaken, not sure how the rivet/staking would work out, but..

I'm going to at least check with my local gun shop. If they can cut the sight down for a similar price to a low pro I'm doing that. I'd rather have the original equipment modified instead of trusting after market.

I'm going to bet that they can cut it down, but it will be cost prohibitive to pay the labor fee of the gunsmith to do it.

Yes, gunsmith would probably charge more to do that than you would spend on another gas block. Only reason I cut mine down was to not spend the cash. And because I could.

Called local gun shop. They apparently do it a lot and charge 25 bucks for it.
