Getting me a Shield

Congratulations ... I chose the Shield this summer and bought it the first of August. ... Spent nearly the entire month of July, most of each day, searching and researching and gathering information and choosing options and comparing models and calibers and such.

I went back to my initial idea... a very reasonably priced and universally loved S&W M&P 9mm ... man oh man, what a lucky strike I made!

It's perhaps THE BEST Every Day Carry-dedicated piece you could ask for... amazing.

And it would be the same and worth it at $700 vs $350. Honest.

I bought a 40 Shield used from its second owner last spring based principally on how good it felt in my hand and its size. I have been continually impressed with this little gun. Super concealable with the 6 round mag and super easy to shoot with 7 rounder. The weight, balance, width, and pointability are just right and the safety (which many don't like) is perfect for my hand. If you took all the pocket autos from the Browning 1903 onward, including all the ones in today's overcrowded market, there is none better - S&W biggest home run since the Chief's Special.

LOL... Having a P226 on your hip is like having Chuck Norris there... no worries :)

I just got a 40 Shield as well and love it. I put night sights on all my carry guns, so when the Trijicons show up I will also put the Apex carry kit in as well.

Congratulations on your new Shield. You'll really like it. I got a Shield 9mm back during the early summer and it's been a lot of fun getting used to it. I added the Apex sear and striker block which made it that much better. I also put on Ameriglo fiber optic front sight. It's just about the best carry pistol I've had.

I wouldn't mind having a Shield in 40 but I'm hesitant to try one if only for the reason of some problems they've had in the past with the 40 S&W cartridge.

Congratulations on your Shield. I love mine. I am thinking about getting another one in .40 also.

This is what I got for my wife, after she shot it I can't it for me to CC!
Great pistol @ a great price... :)

I bought myself a Shield 9mm last month and loving it! I am going to swap out the rear sights for one from 10-8 performance and the front sights for a Ameriglo Pro Glo front sight as seen in another post here on this forum. I would suggest getting Talon grips for your M&P shield. I just installed mine a couple days ago & it made world of difference with the grip.

The shield is a lot of gun for the money, I've had mine almost a year now and couldn't be happier with it.

Thank you everyone! Now I just need to figure out which IWB holster to get. Everyone has a favorite. This will be my first carry gun, so I'm a newbie.

I've been very happy with my Treadstone by Overwatch Holsters. However, holsters are a very individual choice.

I have had my Shield 9 for nearly two years... still the best carry piece I could imagine. Friends have bought XDs and Ruger LC9s, but they either don't handle the recoil as well of just don't feel the same in my hand.

Enjoy the Shield

Congrats on your soon to be Shield. I've been carrying mine for almost a year now and couldn't be happier with it. Even though mine is a.40, I believe a Shield in either caliber would be a great choice.

I picked mine up yesterday from my LGS, by the time I got home and gave it a quick clean it was dark so my plan tonight after work is to put a few rounds through it. This weekend it will get a good workout.

Shield

I bought my Shield in 9mm a few months ago. After only one box of ammo, I was so confident in the pistol that I ordered a Versa Max 2 IWB from Milt Sparks Holsters. I only have a couple to a few more weeks to go before it gets here and I am excited. I am sure you will love the Shield as much as I do. I have not had any failures in the Shield thus far. I am however, still in the process of proofing the Shield for concealed carry. With only a few more boxes to go, still not finding any problems with feeding or ejection, and the accuracy is unbelievable. Then again I have a full size M&P .45 as well as once owning the 9c and never having any failures with them either.
In all honesty, I don't think anyone can go wrong with an M&P.
Best of luck with your new acquisition.

Timely thread, well for me. A friend of mine wants to get rid of his Sig P229 and buy a single stack 9mm. Actually he wanted to buy a .380, but his son in law suggested a single stack 9mm.

Today I took him to a new police supply/gun store too look at the Shield and a Sig compact of some sort. The Sig was too small, but he liked the way the Shield feels in his hand. He's the king of ambivalence, so of course he didn't commit.

I liked the feel of the gun, but I have a pile of 3rd gen 9mms so I definitely don't need it.

One problem is the price. They are offering a grand opening special of the Shield in 9mm or .40 S&W for ... $299.00 + tax.

I think for that price I might have to buy one. Even if I don't like it, I can probably sell it for what I paid for it.

Sigh...

Wow, that's $100 less than I paid for mine a month ago.

Wow, $299....would you mind letting me in on the new police supply gun store you mentioned? I'm in MA too.
Thanks

Got my Shield today! My background check already came through, ran up on my lunch break to pick this baby up! Feels great, had time to put 100 round through it. Worked great, I love it.

One question, my full size has some discoloration on the front of the slide, has anyone else noticed that? How do I get rid of it? I've wiped it pretty good with cleaner...

Nice gun congrats!! I own 2 in 9mm

Me too! One for me, one for the wife. She originally went with the LC380, her choice, but she liked the Shield better.
I've been using a Remora holster and I like it but you cannot reholster with out taking it off. Thought about Alien but didn't want to deal with the wait time.
After looking at different offerings on eBay, I just got one from the seller 'holstertech'. This is a single clip, kydex model that does NOT cover the safety, which I have. Adjustable retention and cant. $30 free shipping. Ordered mine Thurs and got it TODAY. The seller is a great guy, quickly replied to my emails and even emailed me when he shipped it. Colo. to IN in 2 days. AWESOME!

I pulled into the parking lot, money in my pocket and then just decided not to buy. Other than the price, I have no reason to own a Shield. Nothing against it, but if I wanted that size gun I'd have kept my CS 9.

Maybe I'll change my mind before the end of the month, but I don't think so.

Congrats all who are picking up their Shield, it's an awesome shooter for sure, I also put Talon grip and install some Trijicon's night sight on mines.

And I have being carrying my Shield in my INCOG G-Code holster.
