Majority of the semi autos I've owned over the years have been Sigs. Toss in a couple Springfield 1911's along the way. Wanted to try something different, so a few weeks ago I picked up a Glock 19x....just because.

Been raining here almost solid for a month. Got up this morning and the sun was out. Good day for the 19x to make its range debut. Me and a buddy headed out early for the opening bell.

Brought along 100 rounds of Blazer Brass. Set the target at 30' to get acquainted with the pistol and check the sights. Glock trigger pull took a bit getting used to. Shot 50 rounds at the target and then moved over to the steel plate range. Can't say anything bad about it. Surprisingly accurate, it just plain shoots.

Glad I made the purchase.

Regards Klyde

I've been very happy with mine, pictured here in an El Paso Saddlery holster:

Nice set up Bob. I carry a Sig 938 and didn't really have plans on carrying the 19 when I bought it. Regardless, I wanted to have a holster just in case. I picked up an inexpensive ($55) Galco Blakguard belt holster. It is actually an outstanding holster. Adjustable for different width belts. The pistol rides high, good retention, solid ride and easy draw. The light weight of the Glock and that 17+2 capacity sure makes for a tempting carry piece if heading into unknown territory.:D

I think the OP gave the best description of a Glock that Ive read in a while "it just plain shoots". Well done and nice pistol.

Hard to beat

It's hard to beat a Glock. A Glock is like a good hammer. Works every time, just like you want it to. Always been an old school guy. Love my wheel guns and 1911s. Gotta love the feel of steel. But when you need a hammer, you need a hammer. Most dependable semi-autos I've ever owned.

You hit the nail on the head there GP. :D Several wheel guns and two 1911's in the stable. With the state of affairs today....I needed a hammer.

I agree with many of you with respect to glocks, I have owned 8 different variations (maybe more if I can remember them all) and have found almost all of them to be a great tool. I too was shocked about their lack of acceptance in the military trials and loss to the Sig p320. I will say though, if you are a fan of the 1911 and revolver (which I am, 3 1911's and maybe 10 revolvers) but find it hard to connect to a polymer gun something to consider is the polymer triggers used. I believe that is where my disconnect with Glock and others lies. Now I did recently purchase a Sig p320 X compact, with a factory straight metal trigger and boy does it make a difference for me when shooting. Still a polymer frame, light weight gun, 15 rounds 9mm, but in my opinion better ergonomics/sights than a Glock. I say all of this cause Glocks are a great tool but they aren't the only tool that works and does the job!

As much as I dislike the looks of the Glock, they are reliable tools.

I thought the same thing until Smith et al. came out with plastic guns; made Glocks look like a prom queen.

Congrats on your new Glock, I am sure it will get the job done.

I finally broke down and bought a Glock also. A second generation G-19. I haven't had a chance to get it to the range yet, but my wife had one many years ago, and I liked that one. I'm in no real hurry to shoot it. It won't be a carry gun, I've got a Shield 2.0 for that job, but I sort of figured I should own a Glock.

Something about Glock and me just meshes. At a demo day I tried a G48 and shot it lights out.
The only dislike I have about Glocks is the polygonal rifling is unfriendly to cast bullets (my experience). For 9 mm this doesn't bother me because that is the one centerfire cartridge where I use factory ammo.

As far as the new service pistols go, cheap and thrifty President Me would have ordered - Forget the time consuming and expensive procurement business, this is a solved problem already, buy XXX thousands G17s for standard issue. Made in America of course.

I also bought a second-hand Glock 19-2 a few years ago. Everything you need and nothing you don't. It doesn't have finger grooves or rail for a light or laser. It's slick to handle and it works - quite accurate, too.

I don't see the need for the longer grip frame of the 19-X; it only hinders one's ability to carry it discreetly. If you want the larger capacity of the Glock 17, get one or more G-17 mags to carry as backup - they lock into the 19 quite nicely and work fine.

Not about ammo capacity at all. Though that is an added bonus. The G19 slide on the G17 frame gives the pistol a completely different feel. Excellent balance along with the full sized grip purchase. Both the 19x and the G45 offer this. Hard to explain unless you get a chance to shoot a one. Really eye opening. Tritium night sights are standard on the 19x along with a few other options like the marksman barrel and ambidextrous slide release.

Not bashing any of the older Gen models. They are excellent pistols but the 19x and G45 are a different animal.

A number of reviews on the web.
