Glock 26 info wanted

If any of you own and carry a Glock 26, please tell me how please or displeased you are with this firearm. I tried the mini .45 and it nicked my thumb web. I have a Walther .380 PPK and don't like its recoil. Tell me about your experiences with the Glock 26!

I carry a Glock 19 daily. The 26 is a great gun, but take a look at the 19 as well. The 19 will give you a better grip and is not much more difficult to conceal.

Some people call the 26 the "pocket Glock" but this is a misnomer. Unless you have giant pockets, the 26 is not a pocket gun.

I carry a Glock 19 IWB and a S&W 642 in a pocket as backup.

I'm biased toward the Glock 19--I consider it just about the best gun ever made. You may still decide on the 26, and it's a great gun, but take the time to consider the 19 as well.

By the way, how will you be carrying the 26?

I have one, and also had a G27. My 26 is a mate to my G34 - the Glock of oddly magical goodness. Bit thick for pocket guns, roughly double the capacity of a J frame. Sort of heavy. Works in some pockets, but not others. Never tried carrying one on my ankel, though some folks do.

Makes a great BUG to a larger Glock.

The 26 is perhaps a bit less snappish than the 27, but it might well depend on ammo and the individual's perceptions.

Really not much worse to carry a G26 than a steel J frame, at least I don't notice the few extra ounces.

Many people can shoot a G26 about as well as a G19.

It's probably less useful than the mid size Glocks if you carry it IWB or OWB since a G19 can go most of the same places that a 26 would and may conceal just as well. For OWB carry, I don't have a problem with the G34, it's about the same size as a full size 1911.

I carry a G27 (same physical size as the 26) pretty regularly and love it. I can shoot it as well as a full size. I have quite a few rounds down range and have never had a problem with it. My ONLY complaint is that it is a bit thick and prints a little more IWB than a 1911. But for price/quality/performance...it's hard to beat.

I use Glocks for my primary. G-22, G-23, and G-27 along with a "J" frame 2" for secondary. The G-27 in a "Pancake" holster behind my right hip is so comfortable that I forget its there. I aldernate CCW weapons but I keep returning to the G-27.
I am considering a Ruger SP-101 3" .357 for a secondary but I am presently attempting to find a load that shoots POA at 50ft.

I had a 26 and liked it except for the fact that the grip was just a bit too thick and short for my hands, even with a mag extension in place. Traded it in on a single-stack Model 36 .45 -- perfection. Only 7 rounds, but 7 rounds of .45. As an added plush, the slightly thinner grip makes it true pocket-pistol size as long as (like me) you wear pants with generous pockets.

An observation -- if the .45 nipped the web of your hand, the M26 will, too, although I am having a hard time figuring out how that would happen.

Have 17 different Glocks and love 'em. The Glock 26 is a pussycat to shoot, has an exceptional capacity for such a small pistol, is the perfect BUG to the Glock 19/17/34, has good usable sights and conceals well, if just a bit thick for the average pocket.

That said, if one is going to carry on the belt only I prefer the Glock 19 for the longer grip and greater sight radius. Add cargo pockets and/or an ankle rig to the equation and the balance goes back to the Glock 26.

If you intend mostly pocket carry, the thinner Kahr PM9 is my choice, it fits the bill. It just gives up some shootability and mag capacity. That said, it really is a much better pocket choice.

I've had a Glock 26. Had a 33, first (same thing, but in .357 SIG). I've had other Glocks as well. Been shooting them for over 20 years.

I don't have any of them now (though I do have a Glock 19-derived Sigma sitting in the safe - it was just too cheap not to buy). IMHO Glunks have no soul and don't grab me aesthetically. They work well (though the marketing claim of "perfection" is subject to dispute based on my experience with the breed), but are clunky, point funny and carry like a brick. I'm not really a Chevy Truck/Phantom F-4 kinda guy - I can admire their general usefulness while feeling that I can meet my personal needs better with different products. If you're outfitting a large group of people who aren't all that into shooting, though, this isn't a bad way to go.

The micro-Glocks have those stupid trigger serrations in order to get ATF points. I found they increase shooter fatigue on anything more than a few rounds, and am of the opinion that trading out the trigger to a smooth trigger is worth doing. I feel that a 3.5# connector is worth installing in any Glock I own - I shoot better with one onboard. The 33-round big-stick mags were fun to own to back up the G26 - I went on many a trip with the micro, one 17-rounder for back-up carry and three 33-rounders in case SHTF while I was away from home.

I don't know what to say in response to medxam's original post - it's like asking about your experiences with tomatoes. They are what they are. So are the Glock 26s.

Except I'd really miss tomatoes if they all disappeared from the world. I guess Glock 26s are like the sports page. A lot of people like them, but I couldn't care less about them. I've messed with them, but they don't interest me. How's that?

the first responding poster hit it right! I have a 26 and a 19 as well as few other Glocks, I use the 26 most often. Recoil is unnoticed.

It is a little thick, but hey - what else holds 10 +1 in such a small package? (I know M&P Compact; but mine are 15 + years old).

I have seen many who buy a 26, then put mag extensions on it to gain a round or two - guess what, the 19 holds 15 +1 and it's only 1/2 inch taller and 1/2 inch longer. Look at the 19 and 26 side by side before you buy.

I have owned and carried a Gen 4 Glock 26 for about 3 years now. This is a sweet little pistol, the recoil is very manageable, the pistol is accurate and reliable as well as highly concealable. I wouldn't trade it for another compact 9. Some advocate buying a G 19 instead but here's what I did, I bought a pearce 2x grip extension for my first mag and left the other two mags at 10 rnds. That way I have increased magazine capacity if I want it and I still maintain the concealability of the 10 rnd mags. By the way 1/2 " doesn't sound like much but it does matter. Check out the 26 and the 19 together carry each one if you can and shoot each one if you can. Don't let capacity stop you this little pistol will take any 9mm mag made for glocks.

I had a Glock 26 for several years. It is a bit thick for me the way I prefer to carry (IWB). I had about 2k rnds, through it when I traded it to a friend. I shoot a lot of 1911s, CZs, M&Ps and the change in grip angle caused me an issue. I never liked the Glock angle & when coming back to it after the other pistols it pointed high. Just my preference.

If it feels good and you can shoot it, go for it!
But I'd be amiss if I didn't at least recommend a 3913 or 6906 if you can find one.

Might I suggest an M&P 9 Compact? Great gun. For many it feels better in the hand than the G26. Kahr CM9 is good choice too. Go rent some and see.

Try the 30s. It's a 30sf but with a slide from the 36. Much much thinner. It's still slightly thicker than the 19.....slightly, but it will fit leather holsters made for the 17/19/22

Full size Glocks? Really like 'em.

Compact Glocks? Love 'em.

Subcompact Glocks? Hate 'em. Worst of all worlds to my medium-small hand. Not a particularly meaningful drop in size, weight and concealability compared to the compacts, but definitely fewer rounds. Most problematic, they're top heavy and grip short and awkward to shoot. Glock 26? Not unless for some reason there's no other choice. Glock 19? The perfect Glock...

Glock 26 is the same size as Glock 27 (.40cal), which is my choice of caliber. Its a great gun and is still the most commonly purchased Glock.
If you like the PPK except for its recoil you may want to try the Glock 42. I picked one up a few weeks ago, and because it is a gen4 with the dual recoil spring, recoil was almost non-existant. It's thinner than the g26, and thus easier to conceal. In all other respects...it's a Glock.
I compared it (at the range) to my S&W Bodyguard, and the difference in recoil was like night and day. My wife even likes it...and she won't even shoot .38special in a .357 (too much recoil).
