I'm a fan of both gun companies. I have a .40 Shield and a Glock 23. I enjoy shooting both guns, but always CC my Shield. I recently had the urge to by a .45 for CC, so I can put it in my CC rotation. I'm leaning toward the 30s, since I won't have to upgrade the trigger. I like the ergonomics of the .45c, but the trigger will need help from Apex. I also like the 10+1 of the 30s compared to the 8+1 of the 45c. Both guns shoot very accurately, but the 30s is a little snappy. If any one owns or has shot either of these guns I would like to hear your opinions. I know all that matters is my opinion, but I would like to hear from the .45 guys.

Thanks,
Steve

I love my G30S but I've never shot the M&P45c, so I can't really compare them. I just got my Hidden Hybrid Holster in the mail today, so at this point the G30S will probably go into more regular rotation as my CCW. I've had it for a while and carried it off and on but never had a holster that I really loved for it. I usually use the kydex pjholsters for smaller guns like the shield and then comp-tac holsters for the larger, but comp-tac doesn't make a shell for the 30S. Now I've got the HHH, so it instantly moves up to the favorite position.

I can carry the G30S about as well or a little better than the G19. With a flush 9 round mag it sits a bit shorter in the grip than the 19. It is a little thicker, but the grip length usually causes more issues for me.

One "issue" I've had is that the 9 and even the standard 10 round mags that it comes with are extremely tight. Some people won't even carry them at max capacity. There is a write up at glocktalk about prepping the magazines. Once they loosen up they are alright. I can now get 9 into my 9 rounder and get it into the gun without too much difficulty, but it's pushing so hard against the slide that you can barely press check the gun. The brass is creating so much resistance that you have to put some effort into the press check. One of the first times I did it with with a full mag I ended up accidentally cycling the slide and ejecting a round into my TV. Other then that, I haven't had any issues or malfunctions. I put Trijicon HD sights on it and that's it.

Never got to try a MP45C since they were just not available when I was looking for the longest time. Ended up getting a G30S when the LGS just happened to get a couple in stock right after I sent my XDS45 in for the recall last year. It has since become my EDC and continues to be even after getting the XDS back from the recall.

I strong side carry IWB with an untucked shirt with a hybrid holster. If I need to tuck in my shirt (not often) I typically go to my MP40C because of the better grip radius, but otherwise it's the G30S. I could tuck with the G30S, but it would take a "wider' or maybe a 'longer' tailed shirt than I normally use when tucking.

Ended up finding a couple of 9 round magazines (finally!) and I prefer those over the 10 round magazine because it makes the grip just a touch shorter. I do carry a 10 round magazine as a spare.

I had been wrestling with the exact same question, and just picked up a G30 today. My decision was based, as you said, on the need for a trigger upgrade, and the slight capacity difference. My situation was slightly different in that I can not buy a new Glock in MA, so I had to find a used one in state, which I was able to do. I am used to the Glock trigger, so I don't have to learn a new manual of arms. However, the one draw back is that G30 nine and ten round mags are non existent at this time. It did come with two 10 rounders. I will buy a G21 10 rounder if I need an additional mag in the interim. The two mags have no issues loading ten in them as others have mentioned.

I'll tell you exactly what I told my son when he asked me the same question. Glock makes an indisputably proven fine firearm. The M&P is just as high quality a firearm and getting more popular every day. It all comes down to which one feels better to you. I personally never adapted to Glocks, probably because I have been a 1911 shooter for many years and my hands are not large, therefore the M&P fits me much better than a Glock. The 18 degree grip angle on the M&P is much closer to the 1911 design than a Glock.

My son and a friend of his went to the local range and rented a Glock and a M&P for the day. Both chose the Glock over the M&P. I think one of the main problems I had with the Glocks were the large grips they have due to their large capacity magazines. The M&P with the small grip adapter is perfect for my hand. To be sure you need to shoot them both.

Good luck.

I have a Glock 27, M&P45c, M&P40c all are great guns. I carry each of them one a regular basis. My Glock 27 is what I carry when working, I carry my M&Ps usually when not working. The Glock will be slightly more
comfortable IWB due to rounded edges. Both M&Ps have better grip & I feel are more comfortable to shoot consistently for me. Trigger on Glock
are slightly more crisp in my opinion. I prefer the sights on M&Ps.
M&P45c has Trijicon, M&P40c has TruGlo, Glock 27 has Meprolight.
I hope this helps.

I just sold a G30s, made $50 on the deal since they are hard to find around here. The gun felt great in the hand and very lively due to the thinner slide, but could not unseat my old 1997 fat G30 as my favorite small .45 Glock. The 9 round mag makes the Glock 30, if you are stuck with the 10 round mag it is a toss-up with the M&P. The G30s has more recoil than the regular G30 and I had a failure to chamber malfunction with ball ammo on my third magazine. My other (older) Glocks all made before 2009 have been perfect. My fat old G30 is a laser beam, 2 inch groups at 25 yards offhand are easy and I'm not that great of a shot. The G30s was very accurate, but you have to concentrate when you shoot it. You can "break in" the 9 rd mag (and any other mag for that matter) by using a wooden dowel to push down on the follower all the way to full compression then back to the top just as you would if you were filling the mag and shooting the gun dry. Do this ten or 20 times slowly (don't heat up the spring!). Filling up a mag and letting it sit for several weeks does nothing but waste time.

I have had Glock 30( many) for the past 10 years. I am recently changing over to the M&Ps with the external safety. All of my glocks hade the 3.5 lb transfer bar, so they were easy to shoot. But I wanted to carry it with one in the chamber, so the M&P is the best that I could find and I shooti it better than the Glock.

If I didn't have to spend an extra $100+ on the Apex trigger kit, I would probably go with the 45c. I am really starting to like the M&P line of firearms, but the triggers are less than desirable. Come on S&W!!

That is, of course, your considered opinion after you shot a 45C, yes?

My 45C felt fine out of the box and after a 500 round break in, is as smooth as silk. Any aftermarket trigger would be a complete waste of time and money.

No such thing as an "Ohio Compliant Model" with that pesky 10# trigger is there? ;)
