AB1127 would, if passed in its current form, BAN the sale of Glock pistols in the formerly great state of California. The bill, which does not mention Glock by name, would declare that any semi-automatic pistol designed like a Glock and that can be easily converted to fire fully automatically would not longer be legal for sale in CA. The bill passed overwhelmingly in the Assembly. CA has a Democrat super-majority in both houses of the legislature and all constitutional officers are also Democrat. Governor Gavin Newsom personally hates guns and gun owners and will certainly sign the bill into law if it gets to his desk.

Due to the Glock design a device often called a "Glock Switch" can be placed on the gun in place of the rear plate on the slide that allows it to fire fully auto with a high degree of reliability. The change can be made with very basic hand tools and pretty much zero mechanical skill. This offends some people. Of course pretty much ANY semi-automatic weapon can be made to operate full auto with a file and with only a moderate level of mechanical skill, though not as reliably as the Glock.

Back in the day, several European countries flirted with the idea of full auto handguns for special purposes. Apparently Glock wanted to get in on it, their 33 round mag was part of that. Beretta actually produced their version-complete with folding fore end grip. Reality intruded at some point and most disappeared.

One wonders what the phrase "easily converted" might be construed as meaning?

I agree that fully automatic handguns are not much good for precision shooting. That being said many of the troglodytes who want to use such things are not into precision shooting, they are interested in spraying as much lead as they possibly can and hitting as many people as they possibly can in a short period of time. That makes things easier for the gun ban whackos.

The list of approved pistols for sale in Calif is almost all Glock because Glock is willing to pay the freight because of LE business. If they screw Glock there will be almost nothing approved for sale. The problem is the folks who openly play with those toys and even record dozens of wannabe gangsters and show them on You tube without any action by LE. The state essentially doesn't do anything that would disturb the situation they've created. They allow small fires to mature two or three days into disasters because they want everyone in ghettos walking to work. Cal Fire then shows up on TV telling us what a great job they are doing. It's all by design..crime and wildfires are essential to their plan..

Full auto .45! Try to hold on to THAT puppy!
Two things. I have shot a full auto Glock. A. It wasn't very reliable, stopping numerous times during most 30 round mags and B. It wasn't that hard to hold onto once you knew what to expect. And yes, the one I shot was legal - it belonged to a Class 3 dealer and manufacturer.

I have shot a few machine guns that belonged to other people and it was a lot of fun as long as they were buying the ammo. (and they were) The one that I liked the most shot .22 LR.

Accuracy of a full-auto pistol in the hands of a gangbanger would be pretty much non-existent. Someone coming after me with a shotgun or lever-action .30/30 rifle would scare me more than some idiot with a full-auto pistol since I could reasonably expect that all or most of his shots would be misses.

Tell us all about how one would convert, say, an AR, a 1911, or a 10/22 with a file. 🤔

Or, just stop with the gunshop commando nonsense.
