Glock build

"Thumb safety". Told yuzz that I was unknowing of Glocks. I read / heard/ imagined that SOMEbody had said to SOMEbody that there was a thumb safety ala 1911 available. If not, my bad.

It's been a while since I've read about them, so I don't know if they're still made, but there was at least one aftermarket thumb safety offered for the Glock. I think it was called the Cominolli...?

Personally, I would just skip the thumb safety. From what I remember, it was rather small. Plus, your relative's other Glocks don't have them, so that could be a problem. I'd probably try to keep the basic functions as close to his stock Glocks as possible, even if you dress it up.

Most of the mods I had done when I had a Glock 23 were more practical in nature, so I don't know if that would interest you for your project. One aftermarket part that I do like is the Vickers Tactical mag release, at least for Gen 3 guns. It sticks out a little more than the standard factory release, but not so much it's going to cause an unintentional mag drop. It's also been dehorned so no sharp edges to worry about.

In recognition of my youngest son's college graduation I decided to build up a custom Glock 19 9mm compact for him. Using a standard Glock 19 Gen 3 OD lower, I attached a custom vented upper from Rock Slide USA, stainless steel guide rod with captured 17lb spring, and an Alpha Wolf fluted 9mm barrel. Shoots great.

Go to Lone Wold Distributing and poke around their site, some interesting stuff over there for Glocks.

Are there any Glock forums with a similar feel to this one? I am doing research into a 10mm Glock 40 MOS.

It's been a while since I've wandered into a Glock Forum (ie: glocktalk.com). The last ones I scoped out, still wreaked of attitude and belittled newbies that asked questions, so while they may have good info (if you filter through the attitude), I never bothered to join.

This 'Other Brands' Sub-forum and the one on XDtalk (a LOT of Glock owners there), normally do just fine.

Oh--almost forgot. Having a stock slide milled to take a co-witnessed red dot and iron sights is hit-or-miss. The problem is that (IIRC) the striker's channel is right underneath where you're going to mill out for the red dot. Not to mention that now you've got this little window in the sight, with a pretty good chunk of your viewing area cluttered up with dopey iron sights obstructing your view of the target.

I would either have a pure red dot setup, or an MOS, or straight irons sights.

It's very difficult to know without knowing whether this is intended as an off-duty carry gun, a super duty gun (check department regs), a competition gun (check class rules), a rangeday SuperGat, or what.

Ditto on the red dot sight + u-boat (flashlight). Sounds great in theory. What actually happens is that the flashlight washes out the dot. But u-boats still look cool and the weight is nice to have.

If you're gonna hang a light under there, remember to toss in a pack of CLENS stickies.

Im pretty active over on GlockTalk and while every forum has their a**holes, I think the OP could gather some solid info over there w/o the attitude. Nothing like AKFiles (the worst) or ARF.com
