Glock v Sigma v SD9/40///qith a 'twist'?

We all know how the Glock, Sigma and SD guns are SIMILAR...but how are they DIFFERENT? What...if any....major differences are there with the S&W guns that possibly make them a better choice over a Glock?

FWIW, I used to carry Glocks as an LEO and 1911s as an armed citizen, but have recently acquired an SD9. Once my holster (Blackhawk Compact Askins) comes in, I'll get to seriously CCWing it and learn more about it. Right now...I'm loving it.

The one difference I notice between my Sigma 9mm and my Glock is when I'm shooting. My first shot goes out normally but for my second shot I only release the trigger until I feel a click. Mastering this trick will help shave seconds off your "unloading". I noticed that click to be very faint in my sigma but very definate in the glock. Im not saying its better or worse. just a difference I have noticed.

The Glock is much more square shaped (less milling of the slide), most people feel it is not as ergonomically friendly, it has less moving parts, it has a distinct trigger reset, it uses a partially cocked striker (more travel to fully cock and release than S&W), has very strong aftermarket support, Glock does not stuff little balls of cotton in the trigger spring to dampen vibration, you can build a Glock without using a single part manufactured by Glock, profits from the sale of Glocks goes primarily to a foreign country and they are steadily losing LE market share to S&W and Sig (with FN making a serious run as well). Plus in the words of a fellow Glock Armorer and FI; "they work but they just don't seem to have a soul".

And they cost much more than the very comparable SD9. Congrats on the new pistol.

Besides the cost not much really I own a G23 feels like im holding a 2X4 but its a glock and well you know first gun ever made....never fails in anyway what so ever, made of hi-tech space age poly composites, the only gun a real man would ever own. Seriously though they are damn close really almost all striker fired pistols are pretty similar.

On the S&W Forum many talk about the Glock. On the Glock forum the Sigma is rarely mentioned.

The only bad thing I can say about a Glock is those cheap, plastic crappy stock sights. You wind up spending an extra $100+ for good sights. Other than that they are top self! But I also love my SD9!

For me the big difference is price. The sd seems to be like the glock than the sigma does.IMO The sigma feels much better in my hand shoots great no issues. Maybe the glock has a better trigger I have shot one, but haven't owned one. The trigger is all up to the shooter IMO. I have little work in my sigma trigger to make it better than it was from the factory IMO. I have yet to shoot a sd. I do prefer the mag release, grip, and slide lock lever of the Sigma over the glock.

A lot of people bring up the aftermarket when talking about glock. Well in my opinion if S&W only had one style of gun lets say the sigma, and made it in the different configurations as glock makes theirs. Then the sigma would have a huge aftermarket like the glock does. We all know glock only make one style of gun. No 1911s, revolvers, rifles, and so on. Glock made it's name in the LEO world many years ago, and has a huge following.

For me glock is an ok gun, not one that I just have to have. Sigma isn't one that I had to have either. I was just in the market for a ccw and wanted a good name like S&W, also something that fitted me, and the price was right.

S&W could have the perfect gun id say most agree that the Sigma feels great in the hand but dislike the trigger. To me my SD trigger is far better than my Sigma but I dont like the grip or the loose slide fit. If they took the sights off the SD and the sear block then dropped it in a Sigma frame you would have a gun that would not only go head to head with Glock but beat it.

Supporting an American made firearm or a foreign made firearm.

And let's face it, S&W hasn't been around for so long just because they look pretty. They have a record of reliability, support and performance that far outdates Glock.

I'll stick with the company that my great grandfather trusted, and not the company that didn't exist yet.

I guess I'm one of the few who actually like the stock trigger on the SW40VE. You can feel the trigger "break" as compared to the Glock's "spongy" feel. I sold my Sigma but may buy another in 9mm just for cheap desert "plinking". I still however, will only carry Glock 22's for duty. As a side note that you all might find interesting. I work for an agency that lets it officers carry handguns that meet the agency's standards from an "approved" list. Of the 7 manufacturers on the list, only one is an American make, the rest European.

Not that I'm a glock supporter, but most glocks are made in America. Here in Smyrna Ga. not far from me, but owned buy the foreign Glock Family in Austria.

They might be distributed or assembled there but as far as I know the parts are foreign. Actually... I think the guns are assembled overseas... I dunno, either way it profits Austria and not the U.S. not to mention its an infant aged manufacturer when compared to S&W.

Still the Sigma is a bargain, it costs about the same as the Glock-like Taurus MilPros but is a better gun. I don't think it measures up to the Glock but it likely gives you all you need for about $150 less.

Actually I my area you can get the Sigma for $200-$250 cheaper than a Glock(unless you know a guy that knows a guy). As someone that has shot both the sigma does measure up, and if glock hadn't been so scared and pissy. The sigma would have a better trigger than it does(remember the lawsuit).

So, in all actuality I can buy to Sigmas for the price of one Glock. I have the backing of S&W lifetime warranty. If I want a better trigger on my sigma it can be done in about 1 hour.

Also if you care to check at Buds Gun Shop 2011 the Sigma 9&40 take the # 3&4 spot for top selling No Glocks in the top 15. Cheaper than dirt shows sigma 40 in the # 5 spot in 2011 no glocks in the top 5. Of coarse if you go to glock talk the G17 has to be the best seller ever (take it for what it's worth).

I have both the 9VE and the Glock 27, both of which I shoot on a regular basis, and I have to say I trust the Glock more as my EDC, it just feels better in my hand and I shoot tighter groups. But I sure do love paying less for the 9mm ammo for target practice with the 9VE.

Wife and I both carried Sigma 9VE's for years and enjoyed many range trips with no malfs. I polished the triggers to be the best they could be and we were very happy with them. Until......the wife wanted something smaller. Had to be a 9mm with a decent round count. The G26 seemed the best choice and while we were there a G30 begged to go home with me. The Glocks cannot be more reliable than the Sigma's but they sure do shoot better. Triggers are amazing, 1/5" pull, 1/4" reset and 5.5 lb pull. No hours of polishing or farting around with springs. They just work. First 10 rounds at 7 yards were a 3" group (That's good for me). !0+1 45ACP, or 13+1 with the optional mag. Smaller and exactly the same weight as the Sigma. The G26 is small and light and the 12 round mags give my wife a place for her pinky. I'll not ever talk the Sigma's down but I think the Glocks shoot better simply because the trigger is so much better. Don't hate me gang!

Ergonomics.

Price and USA made are a bonus as well.
