Uh-ooh Is S&W replacing the sigma? look!

So if they were actually listening to these forums, where's the .45 version?

S&W posted the brochure for the SD9 & SD40 on their Facebook page about 40 minutes ago. According to S&W, this line is "designed to fill the product portfolio range in between the entry level, opening price point Sigma Series Pistol, and the fully featured, professional level M&P pistol series". Shipments of the SD40 will begin this month, followed by the SD9 in June.

So much for my theory!

They list as one of the features a SDT (Self Defense Trigger), I'll bet that means the same long heavy trigger and now they are advertising it as a safety feature.

Looks Like they also reworked the magazine release. My dad will appreciate that he hates to shoot my sigma because he always jams the end of his finger off the mag release when he pulls the trigger.

On the facebook page S&W says that neither M&P mags, nor Sigma mags will work in the new SD series

In another post somewhere they say the trigger is 8lbs. So to me a much better trigger.

I bought my 9VE mostly as a test case. I fully admit to having been a Sigma hater in the past due to bad experiences with the first generation Sigmas. People have been talking for the last couple years about how good the VE series is, so I had to give one a try. After the rebate I paid less than $275 OTD, not a lot to spend to give the pistol a spin.

I don't know if the one I got was just exceptional, but the trigger on it is nowhere near as bad as some folks have said. No, its not as smooth or light as a revolver, but the trigger pull is similar. Since I'm shooting mostly wheel guns right now, the Sigma fits right in. I dry fired it a bunch, which also helped the trigger, and in actual shooting it doesn't feel as stiff as it actually is.

All that said, I think the line was due for an update, and the SD series appears to be just that. I think the grip on the current VE is fantastic, and it looks that that is retained. If its true that it won't use VE magazines that is a real shame, especially since it has the same capacity. I would get one for sure if the mags would interchange. If not, I might just pick up a second 9VE while they are still available (if they do eventually go away) to keep around as a spare.

So far, just looking at the pictures, I say good job S&W. Now, where is the .45 ACP version? You will sell me one of those if it becomes available.

Overall, I like my M&Ps better than the 9VE, but it looks like the SD series has some of the best features of both.

I wonder if that front nite sight would fit my M&P c 45. Any opinions?

not sure about smiths, but on my sigs, the .45 sights have slightly different elevation than the 9 & 40 sights. which means even if they fit, they may not work anyway because they may change the point of aim.

Right now, after looking at the S&W website and checking the SD9/40 links, I would stick with the Sigma. Going through the 360 degree animation, the pistol 'looks' like the same construction with added items. With the SD having a probable >$400.00 price tag (based on the $530.00 MSRP), I am thinking a 9/40VE in black would suit me just fine.

The slide is totally different with different extractor, and what looks like a different striker assembly. I for one can't wait to see one up close.
