Uh-ooh Is S&W replacing the sigma? look!

I've read that the Sigma series is the #1 seller @ S&W-- I doubt the SD Series is a replacement, but rather an "addition". May appeal to both Sigma and M&P fans . . . priced in the middle of those two . . .

BINGO...
9mm in June
40 S&W in Aug..

Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh :D

I'm not sure how $399 falls between $482 (sigma retail) and $719 (M&P retail)?

Perhaps it's intended to be at a level lower than the sigma, but I doubt it.

I'm sure Smith will shed some light on this when they are ready. There is no doubt that they leaked this gun on purpose. It's all over the internet boards; talk-o-the-town!

The SD does look like a nice gun wherever it falls into play.

I'm going ahead and putting money away for it. Another .40 or do I go ahead and get a 9mm. I love the idea of getting a 9mm but then I think there goes my .40 ammo money and another $200-$300 I have to spend on reserve ammo.

It was my understanding that the Sigma is no longer in production for 2010. The rebate program was extended to help clear out inventory. Dont know if that is a fact- just what I heard. I would think you will be able to find NIB pistols for sale about another year or so.

Interesting. I will bet it is as most have said...A Sigma with better sights, serious looking serrations, interchanging grips, and black-only finish. Depending on the price and the mechanics, I think it looks good.

It looks to have the M&P sized extractor. If that's an indication of the build quality it might just go to the top of my "next" list. Also think it's pretty good looking.

Looks like the love child of an M&P and a Sigma.

I don't hate it (I like variety), but I really don't like the GLOCK-like take-down. I hate pulling the trigger on a gun in the house.

It does not look like it has interchangeable backstraps. But it does look like a slightly updated SIGMA grip so it will be very comfortable.

What would be sweet is if the changes to the new SD can be retrofitted to the Sigmas. The frame itself probably not, but the internals and the slide.

Looks like the same takedown as the Sigma and there is no need to pull the trigger to release the slide.

From the Sigma manual:

Make certain that the
chamber is clear. (Figure 11)
• With the pistol still pointing in
a safe direction and the slide
closed, pull the trigger once
and remove your finger from
the trigger and out of the
trigger guard. (Figure 12)
• Move the slide approximately 1/8” (Figure 13) to the rear and
depress the takedown catch/barrel stop on both sides of the
frame with your thumb and forefinger. (Figure 14)
• Allow the slide to return forward while depressing the
takedown catch/barrel stop.(Figure 14-15)
• Grasp the slide from the top, just behind the front sight and
remove the slide by pulling it forward while being careful to
retain the recoil spring and guide rod assembly. (Figure 15)
Not required on the M&P.

that is SW replacement for the sigma. they have no mention of getting rid of the ve model yet. the old sigma will be available anymore and this is not its replacement, just an addition to the lineup. it is very similar to the swve series.

sidenote...SW references to the sd as a sigma. it is going to be a new model in the sigma lineup. my insider info tells me that in two years the ve model will not be available anymore.

sw has changed the position of some of the internals and the external asthetics. It is basically like bmw revamping there 3 series...very similar to their last year model with slight "improvement."

now, here is where it gets interesting. some people like the old version of the car/gun. bmw enthusiast say that the newer models are not as "in touch with the road" or "just doesnt feel the same."

i have a feeling this will not be the case with the upgraded replacement sigma base layout. although, i have not shot the gun yet, but i have heard the trigger is supposed to be smoother and the gun is suppose to be just as reliable as the older versions.

as for trading in my sw40ve. i have sorted out the trigger issues and it has never failed me once to date (fingers cross) my question to myself. why trade in something time tested and as reliable as my sw40ve?

i will not!

with that said...cant wait to try it out and maybe add one more to the collection.

those are the facts. hope this helps guys.

The initial link for the SD40 now shows a MSRP of $530. Either I totally missed that the first time I looked at that page or it was recently updated.
