Glock vs. M&P-yup. I'm askin' it.

I have a Glock 19 and a Shield 9. Although the Shield isn't full size I have had problems with double feeds and other FTE's. I tried all different brands and weights with the same problem. I sent it back to Smith for repair and it was returned with a new barrel and extractor. Fired another 100 rounds with no problem. The Shield feels better in my hand and the frame is reinforced and feels better built. I shoot the Glock pretty well but the grip is not at all comfortable. The reason I haven't bought the full size Smith 9mm is due to the bad experience with the Sheld.. Any thoughts? Thank you!!

Several thoughts, actually.

Firstly, if the Glock isn't comfortable in your hand, then end of story. There are plenty of 9mm's available that are good, reliable shooters AND comfortable in your hand.

Secondly, discounting the M&P9 full-size simply because you had a bad experience with the Shield is simply irrational. You know this, right? There is no "cause and effect" relationship here; that is, it does not follow that having purchased a defective Shield will result in purchasing a defective M&P9. So, cast this notion out of your mind, okay?

I DO believe that the M&P9 full-size is a worthy candidate for a 9mm, and has much going for it: great ergonomics, reliable and accurate shooter, lifetime warranty, USA manufacturer, lots of available accessories, and consistently named on "Best 9mm" lists. That said, you may also want to check out the Ruger SR9, which also ticks all of the previously mentioned boxes.

I hope this helps. Good luck!

I was a die hard Glock goon until I ran an m&p side by side with my Glocks and shot faster with better times.

I've had two g26's, 2 19's, 3 17's, 2 34's, a 27, 23, 22, and 35... I now own zero Glocks and am happy.

The Glock 27 fits my hand like a glove. The hump slides high into the palm. Feels great. The Glock 17 beats up my hand. The hump is so far down my Palm that It twists the gun forcing the recoil into my thumb knuckle. The m&ps feel great . Hand size is often the determing factor on why you like a gun.

I am a big fan of both Glock and M&Ps. I like the grip on the M&P better but I can adapt to either one and rock them both.
I think the Glock trigger (blade safety) is a better design than the hinged S&W trigger. The successful APEX forward set sear can be had with the stock trigger, a two choices in aluminum with a blade safety, either curved or flat.
Perhaps the stock Glock barrels are better than S&W, idk. My Pro 9 seems as accurate as I need it to be. I am likely going to get the APEX grade barrel as my next upgrade.

The secondary market reflects generally higher prices for Glocks over M&Ps.

If I was going to stay stock I'd get a Glock. I can live the with the grip angle and prefer the trigger.

I bought my M&P Pro 9 and sold my G17 mostly due to the superior ergonomics of the M&P. The trigger was okay and as I improved my skills I recognized that the trigger was the place to improve my M&P. So I went for the APEX Flat faced trigger. $155 on Amazon (prime too).
If I was to start from scratch now, I'd get a M&P 9 FS (not pro) for $400 off armslist. I'd put in the APEX grade barrel and flat faced trigger. I like the 4lb trigger return spring. Feels great to me.

I like the single stack option from Smith better. Less expensive, comes in 40, and better/smaller size for concel carry. Other than that I will take a Glock over any other poly pistol.

Funny stuff these pistols. My G17 gen 3 is possibly the best shooting 9mms I've been around. Being an instructor I've had the privilege of seeing all manner of weaponry drug to the firing line. Most folks that try my 17 for gits and shiggles do well with it as well. I'm convinced some guns are just plane old good shooters, some aren't. Like deer rifles. Not all are tack drivers and never will be.

On a similar note. A shooting buddy of mine has an m+p pro 9mm. It is the only 9mm I'd consider trading my G17 on. It flat drills holes for me. Totally different feel, grip angle, sights. And I shoot it as well as my Glock out to 25 yards. The fella that owns it isn't all that enthralled with it. He shoots it well enough, but nothing spectacular. His favorite weapon is his m+p 45 . You would think all things would be equal here, right? Nope. In my hands his 45 is OK,but nuttin to write home about. And I've pressed more than my fair share of triggers. You just can't get hung upon brands. I love my Glocks. I can assemble / disassemble them with my eyes closed. Love the grip angle, and the low bore height. I also love that m+p pro! Had I been a snob or narrow minded,I'd never had the opportunity to find that out. I'm currently considering an m+p 9c or Shield for dedicated concealed carry. Life is short. Shoot as many different pistols as you can!

Pick the one that you shoot better. I own both M&Ps and Glocks, my EDC is a Glock 19 only because it is more comfortable to me. I have tried to carry the M&P but it does not disappear as easily as the Glock on me. What is best for me may not be best for you. Go out and shoot the tar out of several different brands and models, find friends that own them and try them on. Or buy what someone else likes and try to make it fit you.
