Situation : going somewhere where my glock can't come inside with me, so I have to leave behind in the vehicle.

Question: which method do you feel is safer for keeping glock safe while I'm gone. Keep in briefcase sentry safe (easily can be carried away and sort of stands out that something important is in there) OR in locking glove box (rather weak locking mechanism)

I have a combination lock box with a cable tether on it to secure a handgun if I can't carry it into someplace (school, post office, etc.).

Locks are only there to keep the honest people honest, but the lockbox legally protects me in the eyes of the County Judge / Pistol Licensing Officer if my gun happens to get stolen.

Use a revolver that day instead. You can run a decent size cable or chain through the frame and lock it to the undercarriage of your seat.

I never leave my gun in the car for longer than it takes to eat a meal (rare since CCW reform in Ohio), or get a haircut.

I lock my gun in the glove box when I need to leave it briefly.

If I developed a need to leave it longer, I'd get a small security container.

Your guns will NEVER be safe, ANYWHERE, as long as such a job position exists.

This position only exists because of the state pistol licensing laws.
Our county's Licensing Officer is pro-gun and pro-gun rights. He is strict as far as he has zero tolerance for stupidity committed with a gun, or stupidity committed in possession of a gun, but he is honest and fair.

Even somebody like myself with a couple of childhood "dings" on their record are given fair consideration for a CCW license.

If there are ever any troubles here, I don't anticipate them coming from the County Pistol Office.

I have a small gun safe in my car...if I have to leave a gun in the car, it goes in there. It's not perfect security...nothing is, since the whole car could be stolen...but it's a lot better than the glove box, which can easily be pried open with a screwdriver.

The main intent is to delay a smash-and-grab opportunity thief. They usually won't take the time to mess around, they are in and out.

If I am only going to be gone a short time, I put it in the glove box. Otherwise, I put it in the trunk. Of course, they can always break out the glass and pry open my glove box to get to the trunk realease. Hopefully my alarm will help stop that from happening. Like the one poster said, locks were made to keep honest people honest. A thief will always find a way.
