Gone - Charlie Daniels

My wife and I saw him in Jacksonville, Florida 1976 or 77. His band and Yvonne Elliman were the opening acts for Eric Clapton. She did an excellent job but Charlie Daniels stole the show. It took Clapton forever to get up to speed. Charlie Daniels was a Great Patriot !

He was a helluva country fiddle player.

I saw him in concert before he was well-known, in 1973. He was the lead-up band for Black Oak Arkansas, at an indoor arena in Dothan Alabama, where they held cattle auctions and rodeos; had a dirt floor and the stage was just a couple of feet off the floor.

Between him and Jim Dandy, they blew the walls out that night.

Hate to see you go, Charlie.

That sounds like some gig.

Believe it or not, we had a rock jock in the UK who played Charlie Daniels in the mid 70s. The song I recall is "the South's gonna do it".

I saw Charlie (in my wilder days) at the Sunshine Jam in the old Gatorbowl in Jax, FL in 1976.

He saved the day as Lynyrd Skynyrd was on the ticket but they were a no show. I was at the stage-front, sitting on the field. I knew I was in for some trouble as I saw the police riot squads piling out and surrounding the stage immediately before the no show announcement was made. I figured there were 30,000+ just on the field. Yikes!

His cowboy handlers brought out cases of fifths of Jack Daniels on the stage and threw the bottles into the audience. Never saw so many big belt buckles in a crowd of cowboys! Charlie saved the day!

Marshall Tucker was there too. It was a great concert.

I believe Skynyrd had been live at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta the previous night and Ronnie was done-in. Unable to perform in Jax the next day.

I was a little depressed yesterday, hearing the sad news of Charlie's passing. But, really, he lived a good long life and left a great impression on many. His life should be celebrated! He touched a lot of folk in a very good way!

"Drunkard wants another drink of wine, a politician wants a vote."
This was a tough one. I like so many others never saw Charlie just once.
He toured constantly and hardly played the same venue in a town twice.
From rodeo arenas, open air auditoriums to concert halls his feet on the ground appreciation of his audiences never changed.
I've seen him down here so many times, the most memorable was a Wild Hog BBQ out near Ochopee, it's like losing a friend.

I saw him at a U.P. casino a long time back.
Never had the chance to see him again.
I'm glad I got to that one show.

He did "Wooley Swamp" and when my daughter and I
left there was a spooky looking moon above the
fields beside the county road. I started quoting the
song lyrics and freaked my daughter out.
Good times.
