So I sometimes have solicitors come to my door selling things etc. etc. and a handful of times wonder what would happen if I stepped on the porch and they tried to enter the home (I leave the house on my front porch since I cannot open the door due to my dogs being there with me).

So I got to thinking ... maybe it's a good idea to find a cheap holster for my M&P9 and when this happens grab it and clip it the back of my pants etc. just in-case.

I know they sells TONS of holsters cheap and expensive but I would like to know what you all have found to the best overall budget no frills holster for an M&P9 Full Size gun (FYI. I have the 5" long slide Pro CORE with reflex optic mounted).

Thanks so much guys and I look forward to your replies. :)

Cheap holsters... not a good idea. Your safety is important wether you hardly use the holster or not.

With an optic mounted... you're probably going to have to have one custom cut.

I have the blade tech revolution holster. Got mine from Cabela's for $30. Should clear an optic.

Just to confirm that the Revolution does clear an optic (at least a Deltapoint which is what I have) Combine that with a paddle mount and that's about as good (and cheap) as you could get. ;) I recommend getting the one for the Compact, which will fit the Compact (obviously), the full size, and the Core. (the picture was taken when the Deltapoint was off and I don't have a pic of it with it on)

Does the revolution also fit a M&P45? The description on Amazon for that holster says it does but I just want to make sure.

I may be getting a standard mid/full size 45 for HD and use that one with a holster when needed.

Plus the revolution doesn't have just a basic belt clip ... I do not want a big ol swivel thing or the added bulk to whats pictured just a simple holster with a standard belt clip is all (to be able to clip to belt, pants, etc. when I want to just grab it and attach to me clothes behind me).

Awesome suggestion .... pretty much exactly what I am looking for!

One thing though the picture shows that as a Right Hand model .... are those made to be tucked in the pants and the clip connects to the outside of the pants? Seems like that would be the onyl way that holster would work ... seems made more for compelte concealment ... I'm looking for one to just clip on the outside of my pants or belt behind me maybe .... don;t thin this model would work for that unless left handed.

Also curious though is says 9/40 cal. .... it won't work with a .45? are the frames etc. on a 45 slightly larger then a 9/40?

I am tossing around the M&P45 to use for the home defense.

If not that's okay having one for each is not a bad thing I guess.

But though this looks perfect for my need I think that its a concealment type holster and that may not work for me unless I found a left hand type model.

Ah, ok. Nope the one I linked is an IWB holster. What you want is an OWB holster, but with a similar clip instead of the more typical belt slide connection... Not as many of those out there, as the paddle/belt loop/belt slide method is more secure. But there area few, esp if you include the smaller holster companies...

Something like this...
OWB Belt Holster | PJ Holster LLC

Sounds like what you want... Most kydex makers will have something similar to this as well... Here is another from Amazon, Similar to one already mentioned but with a different belt attachment - although I don't see the M&P listed, but other sellers would likely have it.

Amazon.com : Blade-Tech 5.11 Tactical OWB Holster Revolution with Tek-Lok. Various models available! : Sports & Outdoors@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/31Im03LPn5L.@@AMEPARAM@@31Im03LPn5L

re the 45 - yes the 45 is slightly larger than the 9/40/357 model, some models fit both, some do not. The Blade Tech above and earlier mentioned, for instance, seems to fit both.

I would think a paddle would work better, in case you are wearing gym shorts.

I prefer to slip a pocket pistol in my pant pocket for answer the door or taking out the trash at night. It's more discrete, in case it's my neighbor or their kids at the door.

Although... I like the idea of opening the door for Jehovah Witness wearing an EAA Witness long slide large frame with a red dot sight on my side.

Any recommendations on a paddle holster that is good for cheap? I am new to this so really didn't know how those worked so I googled it and saw a video .... basically just a bigger clip that lays fat inside the waistband against the body right? Really that works fine as well to I think for this particular need ... plus would be good for future range use as well I would assume.

So would I just go back to the Blade-Tech since it has the paddle on it? or is there something better for a few bucks more I should look at?
I read a lot of good things about the Comp-Tac but of course it over twice the price ... but I wonder maybe if I will ever use a holster for range shooting and wish I would have got something better then the Blade-tech .... but really I was hoping to spend less then 50 bucks (and the comp-tech is about 80 bucks).

;)

Yep .. me too! :p

Cheap? How about Fobus SWMP for $21

Amazon.com : Fobus Standard Holster RH Paddle SWMP S&W M&P 9mm, .40, .45 (compact & full size), SD 9 &40 : Gun Holsters : Sports & Outdoors@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41kUbs19opL.@@AMEPARAM@@41kUbs19opL

I have this in left handed version and it works well for both my 40C and 40FS. Out of box, probably won't fit your CORE with red dot sight. But for $21, you can carve out a nice notch, like the other holsters shown in the thread, just big enough for a custom fit. This version of Fobus has a one-piece casing, unlike other fobus kydex holsters that are 2 clam shells riveted together. You can carve out a notch on top and still leave it plenty strong.

I like that option but not a fan on having to cut the hostler to modify really. Plus Amazon is OOS for 21 bucks ... other available for like 25-26 though.

But ya this does look like it would not fit the optic as the front part of the holster goes up to high unlike many holsters and would impede with the reflex.

Bummer though since that is the kind of cheap option I was looking for and I might think about trying and see how the it would look after being modified.

For the price difference though maybe the Blade-TEch Revolution would be a better option for the extra 10 bucks since I do not have to modify and it also comes with a belt loop attachment as well.

Sure with that Comp-Tac holster was much cheaper cause that thing looks Very Nice!!!!

I tried a few different holsters and ended up with the Blade-Tech revolution because it was the best, and it also happened to be the cheapest. It works very well for Steel Challenge matches for me. I would definitely go for that one, if I were you.

Read post #4

I don't see anything about it fitting the 5" slide in that post.

I see a CORE in the Revolution holster that Erick posted but it could be the regular FS 4.5" CORE model in that pic ..... but your post# 4 doesn't say that it will fit a 5" model ... I see your pics and it looks like one pic shows a 5" sticking out of the holster you have it in but that holster you posted is not the Blade-Tech Revolution holster that I am looking at on Amazon or Erick has in his pic (which is the one I am looking to purchase and pictured on Amazon and other sites).

That Revolution holster looks like it may be molded only for the 4.5" FS model M&P9's and not the long slide 5" .... but if the bottom is fully open I would think the extra .5" would just stick out a little more unlike Ericks pic of his 4.5" holstered and it's flush with the end of the holster.

If it sticks out I am fine with that ... just want to make sure it will work fine for the 5" slide before I order.

You're right, I didn't spell it out. Won't happen again.
