Yes, Walmart.

Don’t shop there often mostly because it’s always jam packed in my city and a bit inconvenient to my usual travels.

However, on my way back from a food run I stopped there in search of 4-cup coffee filters which are nowhere to be found elsewhere.

Picked up a few things there, too, and had to use ‘real person’ checkout as I had a coupon that had to be redeemed live.

Spoke to the cashier wondering how she was coping with the beervirus and she smiled and said she is very happy because WALMART GAVE THEIR ASSOCIATES A BONUS IN THEIR PAY. $400. for full timers; $150. for part timers.

I think that’s terrific. :)

And I found where 4-cup filters were stocked...in housewares, not in the food section. Alas, a lady just ahead of me had grabbed the last pack. I said out loud ‘dang, they’re hard to find.’ She smiled and agreed before asking me if I needed some. Told her I was down to my last few; SHE SAID ‘TAKE THESE’ AND GAVE ME THE PACK SHE HAD JUST GRABBED. Tried to refuse (not too hard...need them :p) but she insisted saying she also found them hard to find and always grabbed a pack whenever she found them. WHAT A NICE GESTURE.

Be safe.

After removing Armalite and Glock ammo from the shelves, I’ll never shop their again!!

Walmart here has Seniors only shopping from 6am to 7am every Tuesday morning. Everything is sanitized and well stocked as possible.....and an associate standing at the ends of every aisle waiting to help someone. I've managed to hit both senior hours so far.

Kudos to Walmart!

I should try the seniors hour at my Walmart.

I'm only 62, but after staying up all night, it shouldn't be a problem getting in.

Between 3 and 5 AM is my normal going to bed time.

60 years old is the cut-off......I'm about 50 days inside the cut-off line. Of course I look very young and handsome but for some reason they haven't carded me yet:D

Yeah 6am is early....the new hours have them opening daily at 7am; so that gives us Seniors a first crack at merchandise in a sanitized store. Somebody was using their thinking cap on this one.

WAIT A MINUTE!

I thought a senior citizen was 80+ years old.

You mean to tell me I'm a senior citizen???

In 1999, we had a shooting in our small town middle school. One 12-year old killed another he didn't even know in a crowded hallway. You can imagine what turmoil ensued for the rest of the day and night with clearing the school, dealing with blood-sucking media leeches, connecting frightened parents with frightened kids, etc..

As the was happening, a WalMart manager in El Paso quietly contacted our chief to find out what was needed. With the only condition being that there would be no publicity of any kind, WalMart took care of the little girl's airlift, medical bills, and funeral. They flew in crisis counselors for both the school and the community, then provided catered food for a community meeting. No publicity.

There was no WalMart in our town; no employee connection, nothing - they just did it. I'm never a WalMart hater.

True Story....
The first Senior morning a lady that looks like could be my Grandma pulls up and asked me thru her window if they were carding people at the door?

There was a minor ruckus at the door over someone on the way to work needing something and they wouldn't let him in.

So, I tell the lady no they are not carding us seniors.....you can walk right in. She says with a huff "Well I'm only 57!" Without thinking I blurted out "Go on in, guaranteed they won't stop you!"......She gives me THAT LOOK'.

On the way to the truck I'm wondering.....Did I just commit a Faux Pas?

A minor correction. It's $300 for full time associates. Still, it was a nice surprise for my wife and I to get an additional combined $600 this month :). (Plus a bit of overtime, something Walmart is usually pretty tight about).

We are also getting our quarterly bonus early. Normally given out in the middle of May, we will now be receiving our Q1 bonus at the end of April.

Walmart Announces Special Cash Bonus and Early Payment of Q1 Bonuses Totaling Nearly $550 Million for Hourly Associates

And finally, an added note about the senior hours. The pharmacy and vision centers will also be open early (6:00 AM) on Tuesday.
