Good Read: The traveling Holster by Massad Ayoob.. Guns Magazine Feb 2009

Several years ago, coming back from South Africa, the heavy gauge welded aluminum case that held my .375, .30, and .44 mag came off the conveyor belt in Houston looking like the Jaws of Life had been used on one end. I must have looked really upset because when I went to the KLM counter, the lady there didn't even talk to me before picking up her phone and calling for a supervisor "right now!"

The best news was that the case did its job and none of the guns were damaged. The next best news was that the KLM supervisor gave me his business card, told me to price a comparable case, and said they would issue a check. He and KLM followed through to the letter. The buddy from whom I had borrowed the case decided he was never going to take an air journey again with any of his guns and was pleased to get the money instead of the case. Win-Win.

Don't know to what the OP is referring but there are multiple stories herein re: POSITIVE accounts of conveying firearms via the airlines.

Try a search!

I, for one, have transported a pistol repeatedly (and recently) via checked luggage. Never a problem thus I am awaiting some info re: the apparent difficulties the OP notes.

Be safe.

It is an excellent article. Well worth reading. But then I have yet to read anything Mas wrote that wasn't worthy of consideration.

I agree and believe that Mas Ayoob, in his area of expertise, is now the senior gun writer and trainer. His articles are always thoughtful and it is apparent that he has thought a particular issue through prior to putting his thoughts in writing. Although no one can replace Uncle Jeff, in my opinion, Mas is a worthy successor! Good show!
