Took a trip down to my local gun store/range today after work. First oder of business was to process the paperwork on a Sig P245 I was selling. Second was finally taking the plunge and becoming a "member" at my LGS/range. This gives me 15% off on classes, free lane rental anytime, 5% off merchandise and use of their private gun cleaning room. Third, I signed up for an advance defensive pistol class...this should be very fun/educational.

Finally, made it to the actual shooting part.

The first gun out of the bag was the new-to-me (1970's) S&W Model 65, .357 Magnum. The thing is smoooooooooth. Double action trigger like pulling your finger through a stick of room temperature butter. I'm not a huge fan of stainless guns but got this one specifically to be my car gun. Figured the stainless would be better than blue in keeping the gun in good condition after sitting in the car for extended periods of time and being exposed to temperature/air moisture variations. Below is the target from the first cylinder full I shot out of it. Range was 10 yards and ammo was 158 grain Fiocchi FMJ Truncated Cone. The one out of the black is shot #1.

Next up was some "keep proficient" shooting with one of my two regular carry guns. The Sig P230, .380ACP. The below target is 50 rounds of Federal American Eagle 95 grain FMJ at 10 yards. Not going to win any competitions but all C.O.M. The gun functioned flawlessly the entire time.

Third was my other carry gun. It's a Glock 36, .45ACP. The below target is 50 rounds of Federal American Eagle 230 grain FMJ fired at 10 yards. I got better results than with the P230 but that's expected as I shoot this gun more and it's my main carry gun. I had one FTE out of the 50 shots. The spent casing got jammed between the chamber and the back of the chamber opening in the slide...not stovepiped...stuck lengthwise. Annoying but I won't be overly concerned until I see if it was a one time thing or turns into a regular issue.

The queen of the safe was the last to hit the stage today. The S&W PC1911, .45ACP. The below target is 50 rounds of Federal American Eagle 230 grain FMJ at 10 yards. This gun is freakishly awesome. Seriously...I am in love. The two shots outside of the black were annoying and late in the session of 50. I think I get nervous towards the end of the session when they are all in the black and I inevitably screw something up to put one in the white LOL.

I've got a Glock 36 too, one of my main carry guns. I've never had a jam with it. For practice I feed it a light target loading with a 175 gr SAECO SWC, and see the empties stroll leisurely out of the ejection port and fall close nearby. With service ammo, I keep it loaded with Federal 230 gr HPs, the recoil is pretty fierce, but in a passage at arms, the adrenaline would be high enough so you'd never notice the recoil. Embarassingly, it's more accurate than my Colt Series 70.
