I've been offline for a couple of months while I relocated from western NC to Middle TN. Now reasonably well established, I am starting to look around at local gun shops, and neither of the ones I've visited so far seem to have anything in the way of used S&Ws.

I've been to Specialty Arms II in LaVergne, which has reasonable prices but only modest stocks of anything, and Outpost Armory in Murfreesboro, which is well stocked but with a mixture of reasonable and outlandish prices. Neither place seems to have much in the way of used guns, and Outpost Armory has an astonishingly small supply of used weapons for such a large shop.

Back in the Charlotte, NC area there are a number of well-stocked gun stores that carry ample numbers of used guns -- Beltway Gun and Pawn is a treasure trove for old S&Ws -- and I feel certain there must be similar places here that I just haven't found yet. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

I have the same problem in Jackson-Lexington area. I have purchased only one Smith here in the last six years, a very nice 10-5 at a gun show from a dealer from east TN. I have never checked shops in Nashville but you might have to go there to find something. Oh! I did locate a S&W a very early model 1 1/2 .32, 1878 on GB. A very small dealer in Columbia listed it. I drove there to check it out and did purchase it, about four years ago.

I fear that good gun shops are few and far between in our lovely state. Especially if you're looking for older S&Ws. There's a couple of pretty good shops in Jackson. But they would be hit and miss for used guns. Sorry, can't remember any names right off.
They have a fairly decent gunshow in Jackson. At least its a whole lot better than what passes for a gun show in Memphis. I usually make the 80 mile trip to go to that one. But the next one isn't until July.

I've considered going to the Murfreesboro show a few times, but for me its a 3+ hour trip. Do y'all think its worth the drive?

I think you will find most gun shops across the country to have very little in the way of used handguns, especially S&W. You will find plenty of low priced plastic, etc semi's, but not too many revolvers used. They have all been bought up by the same people that are hoarding all the ammo.

Grayfox, I expect one shop you visited in Jackson may have been Krasner Pawn. It was located across from Kmart just a block off Hwy 45. They have recently moved to Highland Ave., 2 blocks south of Hwy 40, across from ToysRus. And a bonus is that another Pawn & Gun has moved into Krasner's old location. You have to be in the right place at the right time. Good luck.

In mid Tn., look in the free shopper papers for estate auctions.
Folks around here tend to keep their guns until they die.
Very few quality used guns in stores.
There are 2 pawn shops in cookeville that occasionally get something good.
You'll probably never find a "deal".

Welcome to Middle Tennessee Whisper. I travel a great deal in the Cookeville area and check out several local gun and pawn shops. I see a few S & W revolvers, but they do not last long. +1 on the internet site gun owners club of Tennessee. Account sign up is free and there are several revolvers on the site now. pdarrell

There is a gun shop in Columbia, TN that had several police trade-ins a few months ago. They had several Mod. 10's and a few 15's. They are on main street before you get to the turn for the square.

The Franklin Gun Shop generally has some nice S&W's but, don't expect a bargain. The Reloader's Bench in Mt. Juliet sometimes has a couple.

That would be either Teds or Kings both are down town. Teds is right off the square. Kings is a few blocks away.

Kens in Lewisburg has an excellent selection. Just keep in mind he s a Yankee bless his heart.

Check out Robertson's Trading Post on Front Street in Henderson, TN. It's about a two hour drive West of the Nashville Metro area. Not exactly mid state but well worth the drive.

I've picked up several used and police trade in S & W revolvers at Robertson's.

As posted above, check out the Murfreesboro gun show. I use to set up for that show and the Nashville Fairgrounds show. Always better attendance at the Murfreesboro show.
