I've had an iPhone for just under 3 years now. I started with an iPhone 4. After the big iOS update last year, the 4 turned into a crash-o-matic. I upgraded to a 5s last December. The 5s ran ok.
Since I updated to iOS 8 the other day, and then iOS 8.0.2, I've had nothing but trouble.
I tried re-booting, I tried reset & restore (there went my data plan through the roof:rolleyes:), nothing helped. I was having multiple problems here and elsewhere - typing, quoting, copy & paste, etc.

After much aggravation with Apple & iOS updates, etc., I came up with a solution.
My iPhone is going away and I'm getting an "old guy" flip phone again.

The iOS aggravation isn't my only reason for this decision. I've been teetering for a while, thinking of getting rid of the iPhone anyway.

There are plenty of reasons (some personal) for my decision, and I've already downloaded my pictures from the phone to save them, and I already erased all of the data.

I feel better already. :D  ;)

I've never had an iPhone, and am proud of it. I use an old Fogey
flip phone that can take pictures if need be. I don't want to look
like a distracted boob totally unaware of their surroundings
while glued to their electronic devices. That opens you up to
bad things like muggings, robberies, crossing a street against
a light and getting hit by a bus. Not worth it.

I'll stick with Apple products as no compelling alternative exists.

But.... I'm on "pause" with any more new and unvetted updates.

Apparently, the same guy that fouled up the Maps release a few years ago, was at the helm of testing for the iOS 8 release, Josh Williams, according to a Bloomberg report. If this is accurate, I doubt Mr. Williams will be around long.

Apple values secrecy and preventing product picture/info leaks prior to release and will sacrifice some initial bugs towards that goal. Apple felt very burned by the iPhone 4 picture leaks and has strived feverishly to prevent that from happening again.

The net result is; don't get the "A" model of anything Apple anymore.

One thing about Apple though, they will fix it. I had a recent issue with my Apple TV. All of a sudden all of my purchases disappeared! Years and lord knows how much money of purchasing!!

I called Apple support, they found my purchase history, reloaded all my purchases and gave me several TV downloads (not for rent, but to OWN) for free.

I have had every issue with every product address promptly, and at their expense (even when out of warranty). Now THAT is customer service.

Good luck with the flip phone and let know how quickly you miss some of the iPhone features! :D

Luddite! :D;)

That was one of the reasons for my decision - I never even used most of the iPhone features. ;) ;):D

The ones I did use, I can easily live without.

The lion's share of my iPhone use has been music, and I've got that covered with my 16G iPod.

Unless you're taking advantage of the seamless integration of various Apple products, individual Apple devices are generally nothing special, and often not cutting edge in terms of performance compared to the competition. But if you've got iPhone's, iPads, AppleTV... and all the rest... that's where Appple shines.

As far as wearing 20th century technology as a badge of honor... whatever works for ya.:D

Senior Citizen checking in:)

I have a iMac, iPad and a iPod.

My phone is a pay as you go Samsung T139 flip phone which is all I need in my daily activity. Rarely do I use it, sort of a emergency tool if I broke down on the road etc.

But the iPhone is also a great tool for everyone that uses all those great features.

I guess you might say that I am in the High and Low Tech dept.;)

I never owned a PC, have always been a apple head from day one.

I'm a big mac (not the sammich) fan on all of my computer needs, but I carry a Droid (Samsung Galaxy). Not sure if'n I'll test the iphone water next go around or not.

I have a Samsung "flip Phone" and I can make call's on it and receive calls and texts. It also has a stop watch which is handy on our bullseye match's, and an alarm clock which I use to remind myself of various places I am supposed to be, or to time the cycle on the washer/dryer so I don't forget about them (and my wife come home and find them not done). I must get 4 or 5 calls or texts a week on my phone, most of them from my wife. I don't know what I'd do without all this convenience.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S4. I moved up from a S3 a while back. This one is easy and trouble free so far. I am going to stick with the Samsung as I would probably get lost in the Apple.

As a disclaimer, I'm a stockholder. I've used Macintosh since the 80s, but only recently had an opportunity to get an unlocked iPhone 5C for next to nothing. I'd never been a consistent cell user before that and have always believed that cell contracts are for suckers. A couple of months into this phone and I'm already hooked. Got a prepaid unlimited talk, text and data plan for 40 bucks a month. Wife uses a Samsung Galaxy something or other and to me it's just plain wonky compared to the iPhone. Never an early adopter, I've been waiting for the iOS 8 bugs to get worked out before updating. I'm anxious for the wifi calling feature on that UG, as our signal here in the sticks is dicey at best and undependable indoors.

I don't have an iPhone, but do have an iPad (it was "free".) that has had issues with the new "updates".

I just call and text anyway, so I wouldn't use most if not all the extra features anyway. The only thing that would be handy is to check prices of odd ball things that I might see in a store.

BTW: I'm a young'un! :D

That must be a rarity. I'm a Winders and Android type, but I appreciate the market that Apple fostered. Competition is a good thing.

ME TOO!

I went back to a flip phone 1 week ago and I still have 3 bars of battery power. Open it and talk, no need to get my glasses to see which button to push, no worries if your car keys brush against the screen in your pocket, OH THAT'S RIGHT it won' fit in there. No bells or whistles, but it is small and does exactly what I want/need.
