I admit that I have been on the Internet for more than 40 years and I will admit I know how to use a computer. That said, I also admit to to not knowing zillions of things! Among them is how make Google do my bidding.

Well, not exactly. The thing is I use an Android phone, I always have, and I am advised that all of my pictures are stored somewhere on Google's servers/cloud and I can download them from G-mail. Okay...........BUT - -

I do have a rarely used gmail account but I do not see a link to my pictures so - HELP! - does anyone have this answer?

Thanks.

I can access my photos at google photos, But I can't remember what I had to do to sign up. I just go to google photos and click on the go to photos button. Then just save pics from there to my computer.
Sorry I am not more helpful
And I don't have a gmail account, just my regular yahoo account

I have a shared Android Photos app with my lap top but I'm very good on instructions . I download phone images to Photos that is shared with computer . From Photos on computer right click Save as is.... which goes to picture files, from there can choose file upload photo to forum. I'm sure there is an easier way

You can use an Android phone without linking it to a Google account. You can link it to an account without making the default setting backup your pics to the cloud.
Let's assume you know your Google user name and password, link your phone to your Google account, and make the default setting on your phone backup the pics to the cloud.
If this is the first time you've done this and you have many pics on your phone, it may take a while to upload.
You may want to select compressed photo storage for the cloud, if you want unlimited storage.
Go to google.com on your computer and login. Look for the expanding menu of Google services and select Photos.
Exactly where you find the menu and what it looks like may depend on which operating system and browser you use.

Google photos is a separate app that you download onto your Android. You must then synchronize(in your phone's settings) your phone/camera to upload your pictures to your account. Look at the top left corner of your Google page for a matrix of dots and click on them. Search for Photos and follow the instructions. It is a great app since it stores all your pics and allows you to edit and share them. Lose or break your Android and you are still OK.

I wouldn't give google my pictures! I once "googled" my name and I saw some pictures I had on a "cloud". I immediately erased and disconnected use of said cloud. And took pictures out.
You give them your pics. They have your pics and use them.
If you have an android phone, I would keep my pics on the phone with a backup. And link my phones pictures to this website via the "tapatalk " app.

I'm not Orwellian crazy, but I wouldn't give them my pics.

I don't save my/our photos to the cloud, I save them to the backup drive and to flash drives.

Have a blessed day,

Leon

Most cell phone chargers have a USB plug on the end that plugs into the wall charger.

My PC has 6 USB ports. I have one cord for my cell, and one that fits both of my Nikon cameras.

I just plug my cell into my PC and drag the pics over to what ever folder I want.

If it's just one picture, I'll just email it to my non Google account, then save it to my PC.

Dude, 40 years ago was 1980, there was no internet, it was still 15 years or so away! If your Android phone is storing your pictures in the Google cloud, you have a Google account so just us Google Photos as others have said.

I download my android phone photo's to my laptop, and keep them there. I also keep "important" pictures original memory chips. Vacations, family pics, etc. I do back up my files to a thumb drive from time to time.

Part of any truly effective backup routine should be the off-site storage of a set of backup files, so a disaster such as fire in your home won't destroy all copies of digital files.

Agreed. Funny thing is, we rescued my old computer after the fire. It was buried in a pile of rubble (outside, away from the interior of the house, where the firefighters chunked a load of stuff) and it looked almost pristine except it had no wires dangling from it. I bought a new computer and gave it, and my old computer, to a PC guru, and he resurrected my hard drive, which was a combination of files from all of my old computers including work at several employers (I wasn't about to leave those places without my files!) and home, and the PC I am sitting at has 30+ years of information on it!

I do need to move all of that to the cloud or a hard file stored elsewhere, I agree, but I didn't lose any of it in the fire.

Unbelievable, I know.
