Got a 25-2

I got this 25-2 from about 1975 this weekend at a local gun show. I have already posted the smooth target grips, which I am told are S&W but not original to this gun. It looks as if this is one of those 1000-1500 pistols that came out with the barrel marked as '1950' instead of "1955'. I notice that inside of the ejector rod shroud of the barrel is a faint stamping of the serial number. It is very light and hard to read, but it is there. Is this stamping normal for a pistol from this time frame? I tried to get a picture of it here.

According to the SWSC on page 225..around 1000-1500 model 25s were shipped with the barrels mis-marked ".45 CAL. MODEL 1950". Not much else is said.
Interesting "mistake" but I doubt it really adds much monetary value to the revolver. I just happened to come across that passage about the mismarked barrels earlier today looking to see what the shortest barrel length a 25 came with from the factory.

Fine looking gun and stocks congratulations
I just shot the one pictured for the first time Yesterday.
I like smooth targets and have them on most of my revolvers.
Both my 25-2's came wearing smooth targets when I bought them.
One was a special order gun and letters with them.
This one may have as well as it has a red post sight.

I just happened to come across that passage about the mismarked barrels earlier today looking to see what the shortest barrel length a 25 came with from the factory

I know I've seen a 3 1/2" factory 25-2

Hmm..the Bible says 4" was the shortest. I'd like to find/make a snubby 25 (in 45acp). Might make me stop thinking of shortening my 1917 shooter..which I have grown very fond of. If it had just a tiny bit shorter barrel and better front site,would be an ideal side arm...for me..
