Hey All,
I picked up a used 686+ a few days ago at a local shop. It was one of two on consignment from the same guy. They were matching except for the color of the fiber optic rod and the trigger. It was made in 2010.
The trigger pull is better than the new M&P R8 that I have. Super smooth. I know this isn’t a stock trigger and from looking online, it may be a TK? I haven’t removed the side plate yet. It has a good bit of wear on the surface which all my guns have, but everything is tight and smooth. The finish on the cylinder I think is bit more polished than the frame.
It had a full size Hogue grip that I replaced with the VZ’s. I actually like these but I do have a Hogue Bantam grip on the way. It looks to have the same profile but hopefully a bit easier on the hand.
So far, it’s one of my favorite to shoot.

I almost grabbed a set of those OD Green VZ grips while they briefly had them in stock, but I'm holding out for hyena brown, which has been out of stock for many months now. They have no estimate on when it will come back in, and they won't take backorders.

nice weapon; but, trust me you never want to experience seeing one of those go off when it's pointed in your directed. It will either cause instant constipation or just the opposite. In the dark at about 15' it kinda looks like an afterburner kicking in . . . . .

Welcome to the Forum, and congratulations on acquiring a nice 686+. Like you, late last year I went ahead a bought a used 686+ (ca. 2015), except that mine has the 3" bbl. It came with the SDM fiber optic green sight which I really like, but to the best of my knowledge the trigger has not been tuned. That doesn't really matter because the trigger is very nice as is, and it's a great and accurate shooter. I've been experimenting with several different sets of stocks because the original S&W 3-5-7 wood stocks are too skinny and uncomfortable for me. So far the Hogues are working best for comfort and taming recoil for follow up shots. I have been looking at some Altamont Combat stocks and I might buy a set just for looks! Enjoy!

Welcome on in, you chose one of the greatest 357 magnum revolvers ever made in my opinion. My 686-3 snub is my most cherished S&W. Many people consider them their grail gun, myself included. Enjoy it, they are built to last no matter what loads you chamber.

I just put on the Hogue Bantams. They're definately grippy but may be a bit small. I'm gonna run some SD rounds through it today and try both sets.

Picked up a three inch a year or so ago. I'm normally a K frame guy and seven holes is mildly heretical but this thing is growing on me.

I own three of those little buggers and am REALLY HAPPY with them. I even set up a double-sided shoulder holster to carry two at once. (Not really practical for me, but it LOOKS seriously cool.)
Arguably, that's better for your back/shoulders than not having the weight equalized...

Many years ago, I had a P226 shoulder holster made by Eagle Industries that I used to wear. It was called their "airborne law holster", and the offside had pouches that held one pair of cuffs, two spare magazines, and a surefire flashlight (or 3 mags, if you preferred to ditch the flashlight). It balanced the gun nicely and made it so you had a pretty decent amount of gear with you when you threw it on.

I used to carry a P226 to work in a Galco rig. 2 mags and a set of cuffs opposite the pistol helped balance it out nicely.
