I was notified to prepare for a computer update and when they told me it was time, I clicked on Update and Restart,

When it ended, I clicked on Chrome as usual, after seeing that my Desktop now has an Edge icon. The screen pulled up an Edge display.

I tried Chrome again and got here as usual.

I don't want Edge. Can I just delete that icon?

My computer experts are my son and my brother, but it's too late to ask them; both have kids asleep. I hope someone here can make sense of this.

why would Edge get installed as an update for Chrome?

I think I have Windows 10,BTW

Like others have said you can change you default browser or like me just use another browser full time without making it your default. I've been using Firefox now for over a year on my mac and everytime it updates it asks me if I want to make it my default and I always click "Not Now.

Edge can be uninstalled through the normal dialog under settings . . . apps. It will probably come back at the next update, though.

On another note, give it a try. If you like Chrome you may like Edge. It's based on Chrome now, and is really a pretty nice browser.

Yes, you can delete the Edge icon. Somehow Edge is now set as your default browser. To change this back to Chrome, next to your Start button is a text box that usually says "Search for Anything" in it.

Type in "Default Apps" in the text box and hit the Enter key.

This will take you to a page where you can set the default app/program for most things your computer does (like look at photos, watch videos, read your mail, etc.). Scroll down the page until you see "Web Browser". Click on this and a list of possible web browsers will pop up. Select "Chrome" and now Chrome will be your default browser again.

Here is an alternate way of doing the same thing (both of these methods work equally well): Open Chrome; in the upper right corner are three vertical dots - click on this to open the menu; in the menu select "Settings"; this will open up your Chrome settings page; along the left side, click on "Default Browser"; this will open up an option to set Chrome as your full-time browser.

Good luck!

If you use Windows you must have Edge installed, even if it is not your default browser. You contractually agree to when you use Windows. But you can hide the link or shortcut that is on your desktop or taskbar without fear of reprisal.

Edge is a decent browser, but I have an aversion to 'big tech' following me around. I have used Firefox for years and I'm fairly satisfied with it. I pretty much dislike anything related to Google, such as Chrome, due to the surprising amount of info it accumulates.

Gone are the days when a 'browser' was a goat or a deer, and Google's first name was Barney...
