Well used, not abused 4" 586. She's an old workhorse for sure! Been holstered many times, still locks up very tight. Found online for $450, hope I didn't do too bad. Once I seen it, I knew I had to have it. Honest wear is fine in my book I like guns with character, she'll no doubt be a fine a shooter!

$450 is extremely cheap dough for any L-frame that isn’t broken or abused. I love guns in “used” condition also and heck no I would besmirch that with cold blue.

Great buy for the money, I would not walk past that at $450.

That gun is easily worth the $450 you paid. I would even toy with sending it to Smith or Turnbulls for a refinishing. Think how a mirror-blue finish would look like on that?

Would these be the original stocks? What are these stocks called? Thanks

Those are called Magna stocks - I think it is possible they are original but far more often this gun would be wearing Goncalo Alves Target stocks with speedloader cutout.

I believe the Magna stocks were typical for the more scarce fixed sight L-frame models 581/681.

If you remove those stocks it is possible there is a date on them (in ink) or a serial number (cut/stamped in to them).

You did good. I've had two of them , a 6" in 38 Spl. For better or worse, traded it for a 586 4" No dash- no M. It's one of my favorite Smiths (Along with my 625-6 Mtn Gun 45Colt) They are about the last guns I would part with. Enjoy yours. Dopplebok
