In law, as in many other endeavors, when faced with resistance the prudent course is to aim to pick off the low hanging fruit.

This is certainly true with gun regulation. Bump stocks, trigger devices, arm braces, these are all items that in and of themselves not too many people (even gun owners) care about.

This go round it seems the anti-gun crowd is going after so-called "ghost guns."

This is certainly low hanging fruit. Unfortunately, it's one more slice of the salami and it provides a wedge issue for elections: "My evil political opponent is so beholden to the gun lobby and the NRA that they could not even support regulation of untraceable guns that are becoming the favorite gun for murder and mayhem"

i guess i have to answear the comment about"" if not regeisrted it doesn't belong on the street ""what a lot of bull **** that is. i live in florida,WE DON'T REGESTER GUNS HERE, i guess we're all bad guys now ??

Guns are barely traceable even with serial numbers so this is not going to solve anything. Remember the fast and furious gun walking scandal? They were going to trace guns into Mexico to nail the cartels?

Lets say suddenly gang members can't get guns in the US, you think that's going to stop them from getting them from central and south america? They'll just come in with the flow of drugs.

If it's not registered, it doesn't belong on the streets. Period.

There is no such thing as a Ghost Gun

We need to stop repeating the term.

The Democrats are very good at making non-words part of the vocabulary. In the 1990s they made up the phrase High Capacity Magazine and people now accept that

Then they corrupted the Phrase Assault Weapon to include most all Modern Sport Rifles and people now accept that

Ghost Gun must not become part of the Lexicon

Home made Firearms need to be called Home Made Firearms when the Pro 2nd Amendment crowd talks about them

I agree. Pretty soon the anti 2A crowd will be referring to any firearm not tied to a 4473 a "ghost gun".

So what's the big deal? You "manufacture" your own gun, you engrave the manufacturer name and a serial number on the receiver, then fill out a form 4473. No different that going to the LGS and buying a commercial gun.

The Feds tried this argument in the 1970s going after those of us who were building muzzle loading firearms. IIRC they tried to make a test case using a man named Johns Blivins, Jr who was living in NC. As long as you believe the 2nd Amendment does not just apply to muzzle loaders and that the 1st also applies to computers and electronic communications the arguments used to defend Blivens should apply today.

This is Amazing! The 800 pound gorilla in the room is the failure/ lack of locking up or death sentence for the few in society that continue to break the law. Long term prison sentences in a real prison, ( no tv, no gym) sentences to a prison farm( low grade crimes) or short rope and tall tree for murder.

Hey how about just keep the perps in jail where they belong ?
Look at the last shooting in Ca. local DA said keep him locked up
oh no. What 6-7 people dead ?
We have laws, just enforce them, DUH !!

The big deal is the record that now exists. That record enables
anyone to come looking for that specific firearm. Once it's been
digitized, it's out there.

I do not trust the government. The reason is I can hear the
ratchet clicking as the screws turn tighter on every facet of life
they "control".

You think the database isn't out there? Here's a link to get you
started down the rabbit hole of questioning their motives:

"could not even support regulation of untraceable guns that are becoming the favorite gun for murder and mayhem"

Petitio principii.

Begging the question fallacy. The only evidence for their claim is the assertion itself.

It displays ignorance of the hobbyist nature of 80% guns. They are highly UNLIKELY to be used in crimes.

GCA68 requires newly manufactured guns to have serial numbers. There are many millions of pre-68 guns out there that don't have serial numbers . . . will they have to be surrendered? Don't they qualify as ghost guns?

I disagree with this comparison

We ARE the greatest country in the world...and also the worst. We're a mess of contradictions and an infinite assortment of alliances.

Having the opinion that registering firearms (NFA included) indicates a genocidal maniac is patently ridiculous. Speaking of low-hanging fruit, this is it...

As long as we have irresponsible people doing irresponsible acts with firearms, this debate will rage on. I request civility by all parties.
