My sixteen-year-old grandson, Brig, is an avid hunter and has wanted to shoot a bear for the longest time. My nephew, who lives in Montana, invited Brig and his dad (my son, Paul) out to go bear hunting this past week. Brig bought an out-of-state license and bear tag and spent three hard days hiking and glassing for bear. Nothing. Then, finally, on the fourth day, this past Saturday, he spotted one.
Brig dropped it using my old .30-06 that I had given his dad years ago. So, whenever another thread pops up regarding appropriate bear loads, it's obvious that an '06 with a 150-grain bullet will do the job.
It measured almost seven feet from nose to tail. As you can tell from the picture, that's one happy kid.
Here's a picture of it "rugged out."
